Install Add-On Liveries

Featured Replies

Over the past several weeks I have tried to install about 5-6 liveries for the MD11 and 747-400. They download and install ok but they don't show up in the FSX select airplane option. They don't show up in the aircraft cfg file. However, they are listed in the Programs and Features of the Control Panel and can be uninstalled. On a side note The MD11 installer was right below the cfg file. I clicked on it for laughs and received an message saying "Sorry an error has occured. The application could not be installed because the AIR file is damaged. Try obtaining a new AIR file from the application author". I have no idea if these two things are related or not. I don't want to start screwing around with the files because everything involving the MD11 and 744 are working fine except for add-on liveries. Anyone have any ideas?Thank youMichael Cubine

Yeah, one thing at a time I hope.FSX has a check box to show all variants that has to be checked to see liveries.

DanThe box is checked. If the planes are not in the cfg file how would they ever show up in FSX?ThanksMichael Cubine

I missed that. Sorry. Are you running as admin? The nanny security features will prevent modification of a cfg file if not bypassed.

DanUAC is turned off and I tried to install as administrator. It is still not in the cfg file. Only the house livery for GE and PW, American GE and Delta PW are in the cfg file. Under MD11F I have the house liveries, Federal Express, Martinair, and Lufthansa. Thanks Michael Cubine

I give up Michael, maybe the installer has the wrong path?? Might be time to try pmdg support web portal by opening a trouble ticket there. There's not much that is complex with livery install.

DanThanks for your time and help. I have a couple of ideas to try. If they don't work I will submit a ticket to PMDG. Like I said, it is only the liveries that will not install. Right now I am flying the MD11 from KDFW to KTPA.ThanksMichael Cubine

DanI don't remember all of the plan but it involved Q105. REDFRN, Q100, REMIS, SIMMR, BLOND1, and ILS 36L.I tried to set the installation path this morning ending with SimObjects\Airplanes\MD11. I got a message saying I needed to reinstall MD11X. All of the previous times the installation ran to the end with no messages and it was in the installed programs in Control Panel but it was never in FSX variations. I have no idea where it went. I am going to fly a 767-300 from KSEA to KLAX now. I find I have problems if I try to fly PMDG planes consectively. I find it is better to fly other planes between MD11 and 744 flights.I don't want to reinstall the MD11 so I think I just go with the liveries I have. That solves the problem.ThanksMichael Cubine

Can't help on the Livery issue, but believe I can shed some light on the AIR question. You apparently have allowed Adobe to install an update to the Adobe Reader (for PDF files) utility. That update also installed another program by Adobe named Adobe Air - which unfortunately uses the same Air extension as FS does.Depending upon which Operating System you are using you may see an "install icon" by the FS air files and/or get an error message that the air file is corrupt. It is NOT corrupt at all - Adobe Air reports that it is as the FS air file is in a format which it does not understand. The Adobe Air program is apparently only used by a relatively few sites (including a few doctor's offices) to display data. Most of us have simply uninstalled Adobe Air and made sure that we have set all update program to ask us first before any update is actually installed. Many have also switched to Foxit as an alterntive PDF viewer. There are many lengthy posts regarding the Adobe Air situation.Hope this info is useful.

OpaThanks for the help. Getting rid of Adobe AIR has eliminated the error message when I click on the air file in the PMDG 11 folder.Thank youMichael CubineThs
