July 8, 201015 yr I have an odd thing. I have now tried my model on a Windows 7 system with Nvidia video card, where previously I had the model on a Windows XP system with Radeon video card.On the XP:All day and night images of gauges look correct for my model and default models. On the Win 7:All day and night images look correct for all default models.Day gauges look correct for my model.Night gauges have the correct gauges and background, but there is an additonal overlay of the FSX splash screen on each panel.Any idea what is wrong here ?XP version - all fine (I know it needs some work to look professionally lit)...Win 7 - notice the gauges and background are there, but each panel also has a splash screen overlay ???

Yep ... Cant tell the exact problem but FSX Uses the splash screen when there is a missing textureCheck your folders etc , there may be something left in the FS\Textures folder that needs referencing perhaps.Hope this snippet helps ?
July 8, 201015 yr IIRC there is a desktop feature that is in Win Vista/7 (I have XP)...Some kind of transparency type deal where programs can be semi transparent... Turn it off. It looks like the material for the VC @ night is triggering the transparency.Roman FS RTWR SHRS F-111 JoinFS Little Navmap
July 8, 201015 yr Author Thanks for the hint, BUT that is what has me really baffled as all the textures and gauges are there, WITH the extra overlay of the splash screen. I'll keep checking. Maybe I'll try deleting the splash screen file. Does anyone know the name of the splash screen file (or is it embeded in the fsx.exe) ?
July 8, 201015 yr Commercial Member I wouldn't do that. Seriously. The splash screen isn't the problem and removing it's texture isn't the solution. Your approach is like someone who's horse has thrown a shoe and they cut the horse's leg off to solve the problem. Ed Wilson Mindstar AviationMy Playland - I69
July 9, 201015 yr Author Thanks. I'll check into that transparency issue you spoke of in Win7 / Vista. Since the panels consist of a single texture (which is visible) and a single $pan, for each (total of 3 textures - 3 $pan) of the 3 panels, I was hoping to temporarily eliminate the problem by deleting the splash screen, which then would allow the analysis of the situation, and maybe uncover the final resolve. ....moments later......I see that this system does not have Aero active, so no transparencies are in play......still pondering......Ok so what is unique about Night time in FSX ? As you can see I have not added any other textures, in fact I don't have a *_night.bmp at all in the VCockpit section. By the way the 2D panels look fine at night.

July 9, 201015 yr Author Right-click on your FSX Shortcut.Open the Properties Tab and set:Disable desktop compositionDisable visual themesSet the "Run as administrator" option.Hi Bill;Tried that under the "Compatability" tab,...no luck. Additionally tried those settings under the "Change settings for all users", apply > OK,....no luck. Tried also checking "Run this program in compatiblity mode" > Windows XP (Service Pack 3),....no luck.Any other ideas ???
July 9, 201015 yr Moderator Make certain that you do NOT have "DX10 Preview" selected. Most a/c are not compatible with "DX10 Preview" mode at all Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
July 9, 201015 yr Author BINGO....Thanks Bill... It was having the Preview DirectX 10 checked that caused the problem....But but but, now what...you mean that super new feature is not useable ??? Is there someway around my situation ?Thanks
July 9, 201015 yr Commercial Member It's useable if the aircraft in question has been explicitly modeled for FSX and DX10 using the FSX SP2/Acceleration SDK. Ed Wilson Mindstar AviationMy Playland - I69
July 9, 201015 yr Author I just built this model this year and I have only had FSX SP2/Acceleration SDK ?
July 10, 201015 yr Commercial Member Bill would have a better answer... but I'm certain you did not use the FSX SP2/Acceleration SDK for your model if it's not DX10 compliant. Hopefully he'll wander by and explain it all. :( Ed Wilson Mindstar AviationMy Playland - I69
July 10, 201015 yr Moderator I just built this model this year and I have only had FSX SP2/Acceleration SDK ?Did you use FSX Materials and follow the SDK's "recipies" for the different types of usage? What modeling program? Max? GMax? FSDS v3.x? Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
July 10, 201015 yr Author Hi Bill;Yes - Did you use FSX Materials Yes - and follow the SDK's "recipies" for the different types of usage? Gmax - What modeling program? Max? GMax? FSDS v3.x?Having no knowledge of previously how to do things, I used the multiple tutorials on FSX modeling.I'm going to go back and I'm going to guess that something having to do with the $pan texture, which was copied from $pan1 for $pan2 through $pan4, just because of the way that the "splash screen" seems to be sized.I'll try and find how a $pan texture should be configured.
