July 10, 201015 yr RJ- I have used UT Can/AK & USA since their early days. I have never updated them and still run FS91.0. 6 year old 1.8 PC, 2GB RAM with Virtual Mem.= Let System Manage, 2 GPUs/3 monitorsHave NEVER seen an OOM. And can't recall a CTD.Alex ReidInteresting Alex. You're GA pilot mostly when using Flight sim.. right? Maybe with GA aircraft there is less memory load. Maybe Mark is right,, it's a combo of many addons..RJ
July 10, 201015 yr A patched installation of UT in and of itself does not cause OOM errors. Period. Exclamation point.A memory intensive FS9 set up (high resolution / anti-aliasing settings / complex aircraft going to a complex airport / heavy use of AI) coupled with UT (which does use a lot of memory) is, on the other hand, a textbook recipe for an OOM event.Like I said, there is an indirect relationship between the two, but UT by itself is not the cause, it merely exacerbates an existing problem and thus seems to be the whipping boy in this scenario, most definitely undeservedly so. Also never had a problem when I was flying PMDG 747.Alex Reid
July 10, 201015 yr A patched installation of UT in and of itself does not cause OOM errors. Period. Exclamation point.Like I said, it's just an observation that I noted after reading many posts here, that UT plays a big part in OOM's That said, what you read here, isn't always fact. Before splurging on UT, be mindful of its memory requirements. UT is very memory hungry and is known to contribute to OOMs (even with the latest patches). Seeing how you're planning to use it with the PMDG 747 and MD11, which are quite memory intensive, this could put you at a higher risk of an OOM event in your flights. http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=241742&hlI used to have OOMs everywhere all the time, ended up removing Ultimate Terrain. As wonderful as this addon is, its appetite for memory is insatiable. http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtop...ate+terrain+OOMI'd get an OOM approaching Midway. With the weather turned off, I'd OOM in the exact same spot and so on. To make a long story short, it was only after I turned off Ultimate Terrain that I would no longer OOM on that route (with everything else turned on). Since I've turned off Ultimate Terrain completely (I had UT USA, Europe and Canada all patched to their latest versions) I've had little problems with OOMs (in fact, ironically, I only had one...while approaching FSDT's KFJK, flying directly over Manhattan). http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=232419&hl I have been experimenting...With RivaTuner, I checked that at very detailed airports (FSDreamTeam), upon landing, the Video memory usage increases up to 460Mb. And my card has 320 Mb only! That means that the video card is pulling memory from the motherboard and system.Probably, with aircrafts demanding high memory (level-d) the sum of the video and the "normal" memories exceeds what the system can provide. Hence the OOM.In fact I noticed that I was loosing AA just before the OOM, as if the card could not cope anymore. What do you think?ThanksGhiomSorry Ghiom, lets get back to your questionRJ
