July 15, 201015 yr When I am entering data in the FMS I get a message in the scratchpad saying "Max LW 207.7".I note that in the Weights page LW is already there at 246.0 in small type and cannot be changed. What am I supposed to do? I usually ignore it and clear the message. My autolands are just fine.ThanksKen Fairbanks
July 15, 201015 yr The message means that the maximum landing weight is 207 tons. Your predicted landing weight is 246 tons. Dump some of that fuel.Paul
July 15, 201015 yr The FMS predicts with current imputted data you will be too heavy to land when you reach you destination, like Paul said above, you will have too much fuel remaining and you need to get your weight below 207.7 tons. Jay Vorkapic
July 16, 201015 yr Author Thanks for the prompt repies. You will have to pardon my ignorance but I have no idea how to "dump some of my fuel".Exactly how and where do I do this?RegardsKen Fairbanks
July 16, 201015 yr FMC's Init page 3 you have a section where you can enter the requested weight you want the fuel dump to end. Enter 207 (or whatever you want) then on the overhead panel in the fuel section there is a guarded "DUMP" button, push that and the fuel controller will do the rest. It will stop when it has reached commanded weight but you should monitor it and there is a emergency dump stop button there somewhere incase there is a issue.Dumping is usually only used for an unexpected need to land before the fuel has been burnt (eg emergency) so in normal operation you should never have a situation where you need to dump fuel as it is expensive financially and enviromentally (things that have no consequence in flight sim :( ). I have cut it close before with a fully loaded aircraft, good amount of alternate fuel and better than expected tail winds. Jay Vorkapic

July 18, 201015 yr Author Hi Ryan. You're spot on. I now set the fuel much lower in the PMDG Menu options. I was following the Tutorial which did not mention this.ThanksKen Fairbanks
July 18, 201015 yr now, i dont fly the MD-11 (yet) but i would assume that its RELATIVLEY the same in terms of weights/fuel as the 744. i fly with enough fuel so that when i arrive a have about 60/70000 pounds of fuel in my 744, wich is enough to perform a couple of go-arounds. you should try the same, it also permits a safe landing speed :(

July 18, 201015 yr 70,000lb of fuel on arrival!?!?!?!?Isn't that like flying to New York with Miami as an alternate?Paul
July 18, 201015 yr Thats way too much fuel, you should at least half that.Regards... now i wish i read this before taking off to kai tak
July 18, 201015 yr Commercial Member For the MD-11 you're perfectly fine if you arrive with 9 to 11 tonnes of fuel remaining, with an alternate at the usual distance.Cheers,Markus Markus Burkhard
