July 19, 201015 yr If you are a German Flight Simmer, I am pretty confident that you are aware of this news, and what Tempelhof has become. I suspect most of our readership here however, does not. Well, here's the story:The Los Angeles Time's Story on Templehof
July 19, 201015 yr That is cool that Berlin is just letting it be a park, at least for now. How many places here in the US tear up former airports and plow them under because the land is too valuable? Hopefully, it can be left just as it is with birds adding to the growth off trees naturally instead of having to pay for said trees. July 20, 201015 yr Just checked it on the Wikipedia article 2 weeks ago. I haven't visited the page for a while since I retired from editing there due to an indefinite block.Too bad there's absolutely no way I will be able to remove Tempelhof from FSX, though..:( "It goes without saying that when survival is threatened, struggles erupt between peoples, and unfortunate wars between nations result." -HIDEKI TOJO
July 20, 201015 yr Excellent. That'll be top of my list next time I'm in Berlin. Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)
July 20, 201015 yr Wow, that's interesting. I've only flown into THF once shortly before it got closed. The terminal building is really impressive, it will easily fit an Avro RJ85 under the roof. It is big. Check out pictures at a.net, it really is worth a sight. Then a few weeks ago I went to the International Aerospace Exhibition ("ILA") Berlin, which actually takes place at SXF but when I left and went back to TXL by bus we drove past THF and what I saw there was pretty much like what you see in the picture in that article posted above. SO cool. I admit I have never "stood" on a runway, but one day I will definately go there and check it out. People ride their bikes on it, skate, play games, or just go for a (long) walk. It's incredible. :(RegardsEtienne
