July 22, 201015 yr Hi allI am thinking to buy a CDU to enhance the FSX+PMDG experience. By doing a search I have found many CDUs hardware from wide range of prices. So I got some questions:Which is the CDU that you use and why?It is possible to have an Universal CDU for different Boeing planes or PMDG products? If there is another post with this questions can you provide me the linkThanks in advanceJcmmg
July 22, 201015 yr i dont have any other hardware items other than my joystick, but most boeing planes use much the same FMC/CDU as each other, wich saves on training costs, so in FS you wont have to change the button etc etc
July 22, 201015 yr Fly Engravity ... just the best... there are more expensive ones, and there are cheaper too... better there are not...http://www.flyengravity.com/My 2 cents
July 22, 201015 yr Personally I prefer Flight Deck Solutions by far. One of the main factors is Engrevitys FMC's screen does not fit the entire view field. To me this is huge and FDS's is an exact fit (also color). If you're directly above the CDU it probably won't matter too much, but at angles it may be hard to distinguish between line select keys for the data on the screen. Again, for me this is the biggest thing when getting one, since anything you get should have the buttons accurately modeled and the screen to border ratio is the deciding factor. As far as one that works with all aircraft, as mentioned above Boeings are very similiar but not exact. Button layouts are different in some cases and there are a couple major differences between the 737NG and the 747 FMC.Have a look for yourself here. When seriously considering either (or others) the average cost is $1,000 so of course take your time and research them to death. I spent years reading about them by the time it came to getting my 747 model some years ago (2002). Here are a couple pix. Here is Engrevity's:Flight Deck Solutions:777 FMC:737NG: i9 10920x @ 4.8 ~ MSI Creator x299 ~ 256 Gb 3600 G.Skill Trident Z Royal ~ EVGA RTX 3090ti ~ Sim drive = M.2 2-TB ~ OS drive = M.2 is 512-gb ~ 5 other Samsung Pro/Evo mix SSD's ~ EVGA 1600w ~ Win 10 Pro Dan Prunier
July 22, 201015 yr Wow ! :( Amazing gear, that, 77. That Flight Deck Solutions CDU is as real as it could ever get. I MUST HAVE one of those. Sure hope they make one that will work with the LevelD 767 some day. I'd pay a grand for one of those in a heartbeat - even if I had to borrow the money for the purchase price.Tony Best regards from Tony, at the helm of the flying desk.

July 22, 201015 yr I have a 10 inch Lilliput touchscreen and it really enhances the experience and is much cheaper...DavidThat is a great alternative. You can get them under $300, average around 200. Anything from 8" should do fine I would think. I almost ordered one a few months ago to use FSWidgets Googlemap and PDF reader. I read countless message boards on some, so just be warned that some are more annoying than they're worth since the calibration can be something other than perfect (way other), and check compatibility/drivers. Oh yeah, there are some USB only devices out there (No VGA or DVI connection) and that may be a concern in FSX full screen mode with the huge difference in how the directX window is drawn. i9 10920x @ 4.8 ~ MSI Creator x299 ~ 256 Gb 3600 G.Skill Trident Z Royal ~ EVGA RTX 3090ti ~ Sim drive = M.2 2-TB ~ OS drive = M.2 is 512-gb ~ 5 other Samsung Pro/Evo mix SSD's ~ EVGA 1600w ~ Win 10 Pro Dan Prunier
July 23, 201015 yr I would love one of those. I just can't justify spending that much because I don't fly on FSX that often. Do they make anything under 300?
July 23, 201015 yr Author Hi allSo far thanks to your answers I got practical ideas like the touchscreen and a small review for a couple of them. I have found this CDU that is 350 Euros. Does someone have experience with Opencockpit products? Thanks! It's being very valuable your answersJulio

July 23, 201015 yr have you guys seen VRinsights CDU II (2)? it's not the prettiest but it does the job. it SHOULD be fully compatible with the Level D 767 thanks to the SDK that is available for it.youtube video: UK store: http://www.flightstore.co.uk/vrinsight-cdu...ion/avionicsimsaround about the Regards, Philip Lodge PC specs; Windows 7 64 bit home premium, Asus P6X58D-E, Intel core i7 930 @ 4.0 GHz, Corsair XMS3 6GB DDR3 1600MHz triple channel RAM, POV GTX 470, 500gb HDD + 250gb FS HDD, 24" 1920 x 1200, 19" 1280 x 1024 GoFlight MCPPro, VRInsight CDU II, Saitek Pro Flight Radio Panel. July 23, 201015 yr I've heard that the VRinights CDU suck, but I may be wrong. The 747 CDU would probably work with Level-D 767 since the CDU is basicly the same since all it does is display the data and use the keys, since the software has all of the information for it already. Alexander Brinson
July 23, 201015 yr One final thing I want to add, is that the primary thing needed to make them work is a driver which I don't know of any that currently work with PMDG. The near future possibility of a usable SDK though makes the idea that much sweater!Keep in mind that most people that build cockpits, or half-pits use Project Magenta rather than any specific addon. When you are in a cockpit that has all of the actual guages the primary realism is to use each and every guage to their exact max potential. PM interfaces with these items and gives the database, guage action and reaction etc. And of course a lot of work with FSUIPC.I'm currently in a much more casual sim state than I use to be and for the cheaper method would go with the touch screen idea. Other inexpensive CDU/FMC's I would make sure you first guarantee that it will work with PMDG before buying it. Chances are it will not and you might want to wait and see what happens with an SDK 1st. i9 10920x @ 4.8 ~ MSI Creator x299 ~ 256 Gb 3600 G.Skill Trident Z Royal ~ EVGA RTX 3090ti ~ Sim drive = M.2 2-TB ~ OS drive = M.2 is 512-gb ~ 5 other Samsung Pro/Evo mix SSD's ~ EVGA 1600w ~ Win 10 Pro Dan Prunier
