Nvidia Driver 258.96 and FSX

Featured Replies

DJJoseI do understand your scepticism re nvidia control panel, but it works for me and I can see its effect in FSX. I have never said that it is the best program to give you the best settings for FSX, but it does work on the settings that I use. I will probably revert back to nHancer once it supports the GTX460 and the latest nvidia drivers. In his tweak for the 258 driver, NickN, uses the "SLI" profile tool (not nHancer) to obtain the best (in his opinion) settings for the 4xx series cards and the 258 drivers. I could not use those settings, I had a very "grainy" picture with lots of shimmer and wavy lines on panning, and all of the text on the menus etc was unreadable. So with the latest driver for the GTX 460 and using the nvidia control panel to set up my settings and it gave me the sort of picture that I have seen with earlier video cards using nHancer. So as far as I am concerning and thousands of other users using FSX and other PC games the nvidia control panel does work, but that is not to say that it will work for everybody. I accept if it doesn't work for you and others, as that is why this hobby is so fascinating and frustrating. I have some screenshots of FSX with the nvidia control panel settings that used in this card over on Simflight re: in a Gloster Gladiator review that I wrote recently and I think that the screenshot quality is fairly reasonable.Well anyhow, the new nHancer will soon be here! :( RegardsPeterHPS DJJ my card is a GTX460 not a 260 - big difference.

I kinda doubt nHancer slows anyone's system down, but I do think some of the settings dialed in in nHancer (or the other driver GUI) can slow your system down, after all it's just a configuration GUI utility for the driver, at least that's what I have believed. I am using a considerably (maybe 35% throughput platform as yours) and yet I have virtually perfect performance if defined by best IQ, lack of stutters or 'slippage', and frame rates with 3rd party complex aircraft, ORBX FTX scenery, dense to extreme autogen, in dense terminals averaging 21 at the very worst environments, to a steady 30 in anything be the worst environments/weathers. I don't run it faster than 30 as I use FPS_Limiter, but I know at altitude of course it goes way high. As I say, I use nHancer. Bejote's ideas, plus FPS_Limiter got me there more than anything. I don't use any of NickN's set up guides. I do run FSX at high priority, with a affinity mask setting as Bejote recommended. Ever since those changes were made, the need for new hardware went away. I'm sure having 3 big screens is pretty hefty on certain resources though. And I'm not sure if I want to go to 1920 x 1200 due to concerns that it could impact performance! I going to hold out for something with smaller pixel pitch I think. My chief goal is razor sharp imagery, so to that end more pixel pitch, and a smaller physical screen with a higher resolution is what I will be seeking.
I think that the message is that > IQ = < FPS. Look at any GPU / 3D Game chart. BTW, nHancer 8S Combo has spoiled me. jja
