Model (MDL) file missing?

Featured Replies

Hello fellow simmers,I posted this in the Project Opensky forums, and, no one seems to care to respond. Perhaps I may have better input in this forum? The support group at Abacus, makers of the FS Repaint tool, advised that some model makers do not include the model file...Here is what I posted at POSKY forums:"Hello,I use FS9 and I also like to do repaints. Recently, I attempted to do one for the Boeing 767-200v4 model. I downloaded the repaint kit. I use PaintShop Pro and it cannot open the repaint kit files. I also have the FS Repaint tool, and it cannot display that particular model either. I downloaded several textures with the included model and I continue getting the message: "The model file (MDL) was not found! Can anyone help please?"Thanks for your help.

Paint Shop Pro might not be able to read the format the paint kit files are saved in. Some paint kits are in Photoshop's proprietary format. As far as I know, FS Repaint reads the aircraft it displays much as FS does, so if the model file is missing it will not be able to display it. It won't know how to, because the model file is what defines the shape and how to position the textures on it.John

Hi Herman,I took a look at the 767-400 paint kit and it looks like the layered files are in .psd or Photoshop format - which as John says, might not be useable in Photoshop. If I were you I would use the Gimp which is Creative Commons (open source freeware), almost as powerful and can handle .psd files. (I'm not sure whether it can read Paint Shop Pro files too. If it can you could convert the .psd files to the format you're more comfortable working with.)Please can you also say which package you downloaded with the name of the .zip file if necessary. I'm sure someone here will be very pleased to take a look at it for you.Best regards (and good luck!)- Argy

You need to download the full Boeing 767-200v4 add-on. Repaint kits don't include it. They are generally set of textures which are all that are needed for repainting. I believe that FS Repaint needs the .mdl file to display the results on the aircraft. If the repaint files are .psd then that is a Photoshop format - Photoshop drawing
