Default Extra 300 compass change

Featured Replies

Hi,I don't like the default Extra 300 compass. It lags and is not precise at all.It tried to change it but came across a Cab file which I don't know how to tweak. How can I install another compass? which one would work and fit into the panel?Thank you
Can't help you with the "compass" question but a Cab file is simply a form of a zip file which can be opened and files extracted using any of the usual zip/unzip utilities.

You can add different gauges to the panel by editing the plane's panel.cfg.You can find this in ..\FS9\Aircraft\youraircraft\Panel\The gauges are spcified with lines like this:gaugenn=gaugefile!gaugename, x, y, width, heightnn must be a unique number within a panel's window.x, y, width and height set the gauge's position and size.gaugefile refers to the gauges .gau or .cab file or a folder with loose component files.gaugename refers to a specific gauge within the file.As mentioned, .cab files can be opened by winrar, winzip, etc.In fact, if you extract all content into a folder in ..\FS9\Gauges\ or ..\FS9\Aircraft\youraircraft\Panel\ the gauges in it will be usable as well.Cab files are used for xml gauges. The .xml files in it have the gauge's code and can be edited with a text editor like notepad. Are you sure it is a problem with the gauge? The magnetic compass has some quirks when accelerating or turning and FS9 simulates this.

All magnetic compasses in real life "lag and are not precise..." Why mess with reality? :(

Thank you guys for your explanations regarding the cab files and the panel editing. I will use them. But N4gix s' comment about messing with reality scored a winning point :( . I will keep the extra 300 as it is, for the sake of realism.Cheers
