August 12, 201015 yr Flying the FSX version of MD-11 for several months without any problems....New computer installation: I placed FSX on drive C:\ (This is the boot drive - WD Raptor)FS9 on Drive F:\I ran this install for 56 days without any problems...Recently I had the new MOBO go bad and was replaced...In the course of re-install of MOBO the F:\ drive with FS9 and all programs were erased...The C:\ drive remained ok with FSX and other programs...I also started flying on the FSX Multiplayer sever...Don't know if this had any relation to the problem or not...This is the problem: After taking off in the FSX MD-11, I have been at cruise level for about 30 minutes or so and then the "low oil pressure lights" appear and then the engines start to die...After reading the manuals, which don't give too many details about what to do except restart the engines in midair. I am able to start engine # 1 then 3 followed by engine #2...I regain power, but all the settings like FF is way off...I have all features set to default so no problems will happen. I thought there was a problem with a config file or some other file....Don't know???I un-installed the MD-11 the "correct" way and re-install thinking this might solve the problem stated above...NO it didn't same problem....I was wondering to by flying on Multiplayer server that maybe some hacker got inside my computer and changed some of the settings in the FSX files....(any ideas about this statement from anyone)The only thing I know to do now is un-stall all my PMDG airplanes before un-stalling and re-installing FSX on drive C:\Any thoughts? I need some help as I don't know that much about computers....Thanks for any help...I am running Windows7 64Bit with the Intel I980X with GTX480 video card with 12GB of memory...I haven't tried to see if I have the same problem with the PMDG 747-400 since I have started having this problem...Bob Adams Bob Adams
August 13, 201015 yr Hello Bob, sorry to hear about your problem with the MD11 but have you had a look at this topic;http://forum.avsim.net/topic/266119-oil-pres-low-md11/page__st__50__p__1697070__hl__low+oil+pressure__fromsearch__1#entry1697070Seems there are some other folks out there with comparible if not identical issues.Best regards,Mick.
August 13, 201015 yr Author I took a look at those other post...what puzzles me is the fact that the FSX MD-11 was installed over 75 days ago and before I took my computer back to the shop to have the new MOBO installed, the MD-11 was flying perfectly without any "oil pressure" lights on...So I am thinking that when they destroyed all the files which included FS9 off the F:\ drive, maybe some files associated with FSX on the C:\drive using the same registry got corrupted. I have heard that if you have FS9 and FSX installed on the same computer, that if one program is removed then the other one has to be un-installed...since I uninstalled FSX MD-11 version off the C:\ drive and re-installed it back "correctly" as PMDG recommends, then I will attempt to remove FSX completely following there instructions and do a re-install everything...Maybe that will solve my problem... August 15, 201015 yr Author Follow up...Decided not to un-install FSX because I was able to fly the PMDG MD-11 FSX sucessfully without any problems until this Sunday afternoon...On a flight from KIND to KEWR about 1 hour into the flight crusing at fl330, I noticed the oil temp on all 3 engines started to drop and then was loosing oil pressure...And, of course, since I was flying off line (VATSIM) decided to see what would happen, the engines started to spin down, lost power and crash at over 2,000 feet per min...I have no idea what is causing this since I have been flying this plane at least 75 days...Don't even know where to begin...My machine is as follows:MS Windows 7 64-bitIntel Core i7 Extreme 980X @ 3.33GHz 35 degree's CRAM 12.0GB Triple-Channel DDR3@ 534MHz (8-8-8-20)AsusTek Computer Inc p6X58D Premium (LGA1366)Graphics E2350 @ 1920X1080Acer X203W @ 1680X1050NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480Hard Drives: 977GB WD WDC WD1001FAES-60W7A0 ATA Device (IDE)293GB WD WDC WD3000HLFS-01G6U1 ATA Device (DE) 29degree's COptical drives ATAPI iHOS104 ATA deviceHL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24LS50 ATA deviceRealtek High Definition Audio Bob Adams
August 16, 201015 yr Follow up...Decided not to un-install FSX because I was able to fly the PMDG MD-11 FSX sucessfully without any problems until this Sunday afternoon...If I understand you correctly, you had your registry so badly screwed up that you lost an entire drive. Is that correct? If so, why would you assume that anything that is left is safe. I would suggest that you completely uninstall and re-install everything, including the OS. Then, when you have everything working normaly, consider a backup strategy that will avoid these problems in the future. Paul Smith.
August 16, 201015 yr I agree with Paul, After a mobo exchange it is best to reinstall the entire system. There are many behind the scene settings in your registery that refer to the motherboard and its settings and capabilities. You can not expect that the system will run properly after changing to a new motherboard, its even advisable to reinstall your OS if you replaced the mobo with an "identical" make and model. Its a good day's work to get it all up and running again, but once you have it it will probably run a lot better. August 18, 201015 yr Author Nothing wrong with the Registry! All hard drives checked out OK...The problem was with the MOBO.....Originally I received a BSOD which gave me the code that something was wrong with the Hardware...I sent it back to the Tech who built the machine...He ran it through all the tests and found a problem on the MOBO. It was replaced...I supplied the Windows 7 64 bit diskette which was purchased with the equipment...I don't think he re-installed the OS because all the programs where still intact on the boot drive C:\ However drive was F:\ was erased...that's where I had some data and program installed along with FS9 installed...FSX was installed on the Boot drive C:\Sounds like good advise...thanks Bob Adams
August 18, 201015 yr Nothing wrong with the Registry!......However drive was F:\ was erased...How can you say that? Even if it wasn't the original problem, your registry is now in a less then ideal state if for no other reason then it is still expecting a drive F:. I would also be very nervous about what else was done on that machine[i take it for granted that you wont be using that techie again, and if you lived any closer I waould ask who they were so I can warn my friends away from them.] Paul Smith.
August 18, 201015 yr Re-install only the MD-11 an option?Looks like you mobo isn't compatible with the MD-11 hardware ;) Eric [FSX on Windows7 64-bit]
August 19, 201015 yr Author Oil Pressure problem solved...To embarrassed to tell you what happen, but here goes, might help someone else who doesn't look at the obvious. I am using the CH Yoke and foot petals...As you know with this model Yoke there are 3 controls on top...I have the first one set for Throttle...The other two I don't use, but instead of having them pulled to the extreme forward position, by mistake without being aware I had those 2 controls pulled back...Didn't discovery this mistake until I loaded a default FSK plane and was attemping to fly. I would get up about 5,000 then the engines would die...That's when I remembered you have to have these 2 controls pulled forward instead of back...After the correction, that solved the problem not only for the PMDG MD-11 but for all the other default FSX airplanes...So my wife says, "you can't see the trees for the forest." The lesson, maybe I need to listen to her more often...ha Anyway, thanks for everyones contributions, I didn't try any of those...Thank goodness....\ Bob Adams
