September 6, 201015 yr Hello, I was just wondering if there are any general numbers that real MD-11 pilots enter into the FMC for headwinds or tailwinds. I use activesky to get an average wind, but what do real MD-11 pilots use or is there just a general number for say a strong headwind or tailwind? Thanks, David Schleck (KMKE) David
September 6, 201015 yr Commercial Member David, for a short flight you may use the average wind, there is no such thing as a general number. But for longer flights use the winds specific to each waypoint, as given by ActiveSky.More documentation on wind entries is coming very shortly.Cheers,Markus Markus Burkhard
September 6, 201015 yr Commercial Member Hi David,The basic answer is dispatch give you the figure, either uploaded via ACARS or you enter them yourself. I just add the average winds through active sky unless the enroute winds are significant. Rob Prest
