Saving Radar Contact progress?

Featured Replies

Well gents I am still having trouble saving a flight and related progress point for RC. I can manage using the Ctrl+Shift+; but if I use just the ; and Save Flight feature, I save the flight but not the appropriate RC point. I have the path set up but clearly I am missing something. I would appreciate knowing how you more experienced (and younger) folks do your saving. Thanks,Grandpa

why not send me a log, and i'll tell you where the .rcd is.the .rcd has to be in the same directory as the .flt and .wx files of the same name.jd

Thank you JD. I will first learn how the log process works and then pass it along to you.Eric

Hello John,If you are still following this topic, I have to report that things have now regressed. I can no longer save an rcd. file regardless of which of the 3 methods I use. When I attempt to losd a previously saved rcd. file, I see that in the past some files have been saved but I have no idea how that occured and no idea how to replicate it. I really don't know what to provide to you that would help us solve the problem. Would a log really be of any assistance to you? The RC files are going into this folder (C:\Users\Eric\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files) and I can see them along with the related necessary files. However when I ask RC4 to open previosly save RCd. files, I get a folder containing only a limited list of rcd.files which work just fine but I cannot add new rcd. files. If all this makes sense to anyone, please try to sort me out. Thanks so much,Eric

I just got Radar Contact yesterday and I am confused about how to save the RC state. This may be related to this thread so I thought I would post my problem here. When I try to select the .FLT / .WX path using the button and select the "my documents\flight simulator X files" folder (or do it the long way - c:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\[MY PROFILE]\MY DOCUMENTS\FLIGHT SIMULATOR X FILES, all that shows up in the RC main screen in the options list window is nothing or "C:\documents and " ... ?Also, when I try to select the button on the top right to load previously saved .RCDs, I am directed to the CORRECT folder but it is empty.See the screenshot I attached to this posting. How do I save RC states so that if FSX does crash (e.g. out of memory error), I can resume RC from my last saved flight position?John

I have the same problem saving RCD file. The "Flight Simulator X Files" folder opens but is empty.

This cannot be!! The normal Flight Simulator X files contains numerous files generated by FSX itself. I have to admit I have not been following this thread closely, but this sure caught my eye. Have you created a second FSX files folder and are looking at that one? The correct folder was/is generated by FSX, not the user.

There are two file folders named "Flight Simulator X Files". One lives in "My Documents" and contains flight plans, FSUIPC auto-save, etc. The other is in "My Pictures" and has screen shots. Yet when "Load Previously Saved RCD Files" opens it - it is empty.

My situation is exactly as stated above. I can see all of the RC4 files in the Flight Simulator X file foder but when I request the program to open previously saved rcd. files, I see that the file that I just "saved" is nowhere to be found. Either the manual information is incorrect or we all are doing something wrong.Grandpa

I wish I was able to shed some light here, but cannot other than to say no, the manual is not wrong, it has been used and followed by many and no, everyone is not doing something wrong. I am certain that with a little patience on your part the knowledgeable folks at Radar Contact will get you going. The only thing I can think to try right now is to direct your RCD files to be saved in the Flight Simulator X folder found in your documents, the one wherein FSX itself stores a variety of flight plans, etc and not in the one found in your Pictures Album.

Well, after re-doing the saves and re-pointing RC to the mydocuments\flight simulator x files folder, all the saves are registering in the correct place. I have resumed flights several times from RC saves.Another thing I would like to clarify which is not really clear in the RC v4.1 manual: You can simply save your FSX flight as you normally do, with the SEMI-COLON key ( ; ) and then there is also a .RCD file created automatically by Radar contact. No need to save with CTRL-; because this method does NOT ask you to name the file yourself but saves it under that unusual and basically useless filename starting the the dollar sign ($) and FSUIPC-saved etc... It would be too complicated to resume a specific part of a flight with filenames like that. Thanks everyone for your help. John

Hi Woodhick,I just tried a test using RC, ASE (Active Sky Evolution weather program) and PMDG744X, landing at London Heathrow X by UK2000 (demo version which is fully functional). I had all kinds of issues about how to resume from save. I find my saved files, either via the LOAD button in FSX or the load previously saved RCD button in Radar Contact, load them, but Radar contact seemed to load the FIRST waypoint in my flightplan when I did this. I had re-loaded the flightplan also, before loading the actual flight. If I load the flight from FSX, it froze FC sometimes... I think perhaps that I was loading from a position where I was only 5NM from the touchdown zone at Heathrow which put RC in the beginning of the flightplan... Can someone clarify the STEPS in doing a resume from save please as the RC manual is not clear. Do we have to be IN a flight and LOAD this flight from save? Do we open RC and LOAD RCD FILE from the button? Do we have to re-load our flight plan first in RC and then load RCD file? I don't get it. I somehow got it to resume but it looks like there is definitely an order to things when resuming from save for Radar Contact. If someone can just shed light on what is the correct order of things, I'd appreciate it, because this is getting to be a royal waste of time. Thanks,John

OK its fixed. I directed the path with the flt/.wx button and it works. I don't know how I overlooked that. My run time error (another post) seems to be fixed as well. I'm a happy pilot tonight! Its a great program. ThanksStephen
