September 18, 201015 yr I'm new here and think I have searched this topic to no avail. Pardon me if this has already been discussed. Are PMDG going to release a version of the 100, 200, 300 and SP kinda like they did with the -800? The -400 cargo has the -200 upper deck already, all we really need is the old JT9, CF6 and RB211s, and were real close. The SP maybe more of a challenge. I bet if it was an exterior model only, there'd be a lot of takers - especially us video buffs who already know how to fly the -400. I know CLS has one, but wouldn't you rather a PNDG? I would! I'd donate time to do the liveries.Mike Bartils
September 18, 201015 yr This would require more than just a exterior update. PMDG would have to remodel the VC and panels.
September 18, 201015 yr Actually, Boeing reopened the 747SP line in 1987 to build one for the Royal Flight of Abu Dhabi. I believe that one had a glass cockpit, although I'm guessing money was no object in this case. :( Cheers, Chris D I do not have a signature. Why are you reading this?
September 18, 201015 yr Plenty of 747 Classics have been retro-fitted with glass in some way or another. KLM modified their classic fleet for example. But the systems behind the glass are still the same, very different to the 747-400. There's an additional crew position to be simulated as well. There was a reasonably good 747 Classic available for FS9 (called "Ready For Pushback"). I believe it's available as freeware now. Some of the systems simulation was not up to PMDG standards though, but it's the best of the bunch in terms of depth of systems.Kevin
September 18, 201015 yr Commercial Member The LCF was the last model extension we had planned. Doing classics doesn't really make much sense because the cockpit is drastically different (analog, flight engineer position etc)... If we ever did a classic it'd be a whole separate product with the cockpit done etc. We have actually talked about doing that or a 737 classic before - would be way in the future though. I prefer the modern stuff to the old stuff myself, just my 2 cents. September 19, 201015 yr No glass cockpit in the Spruce Goose there, Scott. Cheers, Chris DTrue, but I will always make an exception for Mr Hughes. Now if PMDG would make a H-4 Hercules...that would be fun to fly on AVSIM. September 19, 201015 yr Last year the RFP team or some of them were supposedly working on an FSX upgrade. Not sure what happened with it or if it will ever be released, but the FS9 version was probably the most complicated and complete addon.
