September 21, 201015 yr I am having serious issues with my current graphics card (XFX ATI 4870 512mb). It produces lines of tiny red and black dots all over the screen and ATI support say it is most likely that is it about to die. I need to send it back for a warranty repair but I really cannot be without my computer for the 28 days the return would take. One potion I have come up with is to get a new graphics card now, send the only one for repair then sell it on when I get it back. I am thinking about what I would need to make the jump to FSX and still get good FPS. Would just a newer graphics card do me? My budget would be around £100-200. September 21, 201015 yr Evga 465 and up. Make sure your power supply can handle the new card. Need good case cooling too.
September 21, 201015 yr Gtx460 often comes factory superclocked and runs cooler than the 465, Gainward has good reviews on their Golden edition. And they tend to still have margin for further oc. "I´ll rather be down here wishing I was up there than be up there wishing I was down here"
September 21, 201015 yr Author I like the look of the GTX 460. How much would I notice the difference in performance over what I currently have if I just replaced the graphics card with the GTX 460?
September 21, 201015 yr I like the look of the GTX 460. How much would I notice the difference in performance over what I currently have if I just replaced the graphics card with the GTX 460?I don't know what the exact difference would be since the CPU speed makes the most difference in FSX, but the imnprovement with the 460 GTX over your present card would be really significant. It is a lovely piece of technology that I think would fit your other specs. Yes, it does look good too!Kind regards,
September 22, 201015 yr Author I have just been looking at the GTS450. It's nearly £100 cheaper than the GTX460. Like Stephen says if the CPU is not quite up to full-on FSX then maybe the GTX460 is overkill and the GTS450 would be better. I am on a tight budget and I don't really want to throw away an extra £100 to get very little improvement between the two.
