Best AI for FSX?

Featured Replies

I've recently acquired FSX after YEARS of being a die-hard FS9 user. It's been a slow migration, but I've managed to dial it in and now have some of my favorite add-ons working properly. As with FS9, I need to find a decent FSX solution for AI. I had been using WoAI and PAI, but I was wondering if I should be looking at something else a little more in-league with FSx's capabilities.Any suggestions?

Yes, Ulitmate Traffic 2, Mytraffic X or Traffic X. Seriously though, there is no best AI package. It's almost like asking whats the best car, Mercedes or BWM? It comes down to personal preferance. What I swear is the best, you may consider the worst, or the other way around. It depends on what you want out of a packack and how realistic you want the flight plans to be as far as if you want it to have real world airlines flying to the actual airports they fly to in real life, or you just want an aproximation of real life schedules and want a lot of airlines traffic.Personally I will never give up Ulitmate Traffic 2 and I like it the most because its based on the actual schedules of the airlines it depicts and they actually fly flight plans, rather than just point A to point B. Plus, for me the UI is really easy to use as far as adding paints, importing new schedules and airlines, etc. It's also not a .bgl based program like all other AI is. It runs off simconnect and injects the traffic, which adds some neat features like being able to use a hot key to stop traffic, clear a final approach path, or reset traffic, all without having to refresh the scenery. Although Ulitmate Traffic does include some cargo, its missing UPS and FedEX, so I filled it in with the WOAI UPS and FedEx. If I wanted to take the time, I could also import those packegs into UT2, but at the present I just run them as .bgl traffic. The other popular choice is MyTraffic X. I have never used it so I cant really comment on it, except for the fact that it uses .bgl traffic files, and the schedules and airports that the airlines fly to maybe more of an estimation, which may lead to airlines flying to airports that they dont fly to in real life. However, since it uses .bgl style files, the traffic once it lands will remain at the aiport unitl it leaves again. The good part is that you will probably have a lot more static traffic at airports and a/c parked over night than UT2 provides, but at the same time that can lead to worse FPS and over crowding at airports if you run 100%. If you use UT2 you wont encounter as much traffic in the middle of the night becasue the AI are only present 20 minutes prior to take off and 20 minutes after landing. So because of this, if you fly late hours of say between 11pm and 5 am, you may not see a lot of parked traffic, however you can over come that if you import external schedules for the airlines you want to see parked over night. For me it's not really an issue since I dont fly those hours very often anyway, and in real life if you look at flightaware for your favorite hub, you will see that most dont have a huge amount of movements in those hours anyway, although in real life the a/c will be parked at the airport. I'm not saying that you wont see any traffic in the middle of the night with UT2, but you wont see as much as .bgl style traffic. So it really comes down to a matter of personal preferance. If you do a search here asking what the best AI package is, you will find probably near a hundres hits of people asking the same thing, and the answers are probably going to say the same as well, depends of what your looking for. I will say though, that if you already have most of the WOAI installed and you get UT2, dont uninstall the WOAI stuff except for the .bgls that you dont want to show up because it will come in handy to have the paints and models installed if you want to swap out any of them in the UT2 UI or assign any missing paints that UT2 may not have.Good luck.

I have all three main traffic programs and as an "average" simmer I.e. someone who just wants plenty of traffic at as many airports as possible, I'm less concerned about absolute accuracy than general airport ambience. With that in mind I find MyTraffic X 5.3 to be the best of the bunch. :)
