Richard Probst 727 Panel

Featured Replies

Would someone please tell me how to start the engines of the 727 using Richard Probst's v4 727 panel. I've looked everywhere in the documentation and there isn't a hint. In the v3 panel, which I still have in FS2002, it says to use "the second overhead panel". Problem is, there is no 2nd overhead panel in v4.... There are no start switches anywhere to be seen. You can't use the "E" key either. That doesn't work. Any help would be appreciated.Want to be flying Mike Stone's gMax 727 in Continental colors out of Guam. Using the FS2002 scenery by Bill Melchar. Looks incredible.Steve

HI steve - Trying this from memory so forgive me if I screw up. There are two sub windows you need to work with. The throttle quadrant and what I call the start window ( shift 7 )In the throttle quadrant, underneath the throttle levers are 3 levers numbered 1,2,3 ( possibly fuel pumps? )WIth engines off hit Shift 7 to bring up the starter window. Slightly above right center are three covered toggle switches.Click #1 switch and then switch back to main panel view - you should hear and see the #1 engine spooling - I watch until the lower dial gets to about 2 ( sorry as I said I'm doing this from memory not at the sim system ) bring up the throttle window and click the lower toggle #1 beneath the throttle levers. This should start the engine.Repeat sequence with #2 and #3.HTH,Vic

Vic, Thanks for the reply. I think you are correct for the panel v3 which I used in FS2002. I downloaded v4 and the FS2004 update and installed it in FS9. Unfortunately, the 2nd upper panel view is now a landing view that is shown in the pull down menu as "Do not use".There are no start switches anywhere to be seen. And, to further the frustration, the e1, e2, e3 start sequence won't work and only Engine #1 is usable. ;( Might need to change the panel.cfg file to match v3 for the 2nd upper panel. I'll try that tonight. The landing view is next to useless as you can't get back to the main panel view without right clicking "Close this window" and then going into the pull down menu and clicking on "Main".

Hi Steve - Yes, I realized it was v3 right after I posted . Can't install them on thius system but I d/l both v3 and v4 and looked in the panel.cfg files. v4 cfg calls for "overhead.bmp" in window06 ( shift 7) but there is NO overhead.bmp in the folder. Maybe copying it from v3??I'm using v3 in fs2004 and I love it.Good luck - post if you get it to work - maybe I'll try v4.Vic

Vic, I think I'll copy the 2nd overhead info from fs2002 into my panel.cfg file for fs9. Must have been an oversite. The FS9 upgrade is really cool as it includes icons for the FE report, take off and landing charts for your weight, etc. If I can get the 2nd overhead to work I'll let you know. Otherwise, I'll use v3 in FS9.

Hi Steve,Good to see you were able to get that great 727 panel into FS9. I can't. Whatever I do I just get the error box telling me that the gauges are not acceptable. This is my favourite panel of all time and I am gutted that I can't use it in FS9. The really odd thing is that I can get the supplement to v4 which provided 'paper' reports from the flight engineer and take-off and descent reports. Very frustrating. As to your problem, I can't quite understand it. v4 certainly does have a full overhead panel. It was actually quite difficult to bring up so Richard produced a small add-on to which provided an icon for the main panel which you simply click on to bring up the o'head. That panel contains the three starter switches.Bud

Hi Bud - PMJI but where did you find that small addon for the ovberhead? It isn't in the original v4 zip. Have a link or a filename?I'm using v3 in fs9 and love it but if v4 works and is an improvement.........Thanx,Vic

Got it! Had to use the v4 panel plus the update with the FE reports, etc., PLUS rp727ico.zip. This puts an icon on the panel to open up the overhead where the engine start switches are located. Can't wait to fire up the old three-holer!!! :-jumpy Make sure you have FSSound.dll in your Modules folder and {OLDMODULES} -- Square bracketsFSSound.dll=1in your FS9.cfg file.Steve

Hi Vic,Steve seems to have found it, just follow him to the d/l. v4 with these additions is even more brilliant. You'll love it.I cannot understand why I can't get it to work in FS9. I've tried with the guage in the Guages folder, then I tried with the guage in the Panel folder, then in a sub-folder of the Panel folder. Notjing seems to work.Bud

In the panel.cfg try deleting any space between the gauge name and the first coma. I read this somewhere the other day and it did make my RP727 panel work on FS9.Kyprianos Biris :-cool[link:avsim.com/greece/hvacc]Hellenic vACChttp://vateud.org/images/vatsim-eurs.gifhttp://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg

Bud, I didn't follow the directions exactly. :-roll I put the panel in the panel folder under my b727-200 folder (Mike Stone's 727-200), the sounds in the sound folder, and the gauge (there's only the one rp727_2) in the main gauges folder. I used the v4 panel with the updated FE .xml gauge. Then I downloaded the icon file (rp727ico.zip from AVSIM - see my earlier post) and all it contains is a new panel.cfg file. Put that into the panel folder. Viola! You got yourself a certified Boeing 727! Be sure and put the FSSound.dll=1 in your FS9.cfg file like I said earlier. I'm ready to do a test flight out of Guam to Saipan tonight in FS9 -- Use Bill Melchar's Guam scenery. It is outstanding! Good luck!

Steve,I did pretty much as you but didn't get me anywhere.Actually there are a couple of things you need to look out for, altho' you may already have. The first is that to get the auto-pilot to work, apparently, you need to delete the space between the gauage name and the comma in the panel cfg. This was posted some while ago, obviously I haven't had a chance to try it !! The other is that, unless it has been changed, the location of the o'head panel icon covers, at least partly, one of the old icons. When I got it in FS2002, I had to adjust the x,y locations in the cfg to get a better alignment.Bud

Bud, I'll edit the .cfg file to eliminate that space. Didn't see that one. As for the overhead covering the panel, what I have is the overhead with the starters being the full screen size; i.e., it covers everything. But, it has an "X" at the upper right corner that closes the upper panel when you click it. I'll try my flight tonight and report back. Haven't flown the 27 since FS2000. Maybe a couple of screenshots.....Steve

Many thanks. I actually did go thro' the cfg looking for the spaces. The only one I could find was the auto-pilot. From your post, do I take it that there are other spaces I missed? Do you have a note of any other spaces - would be very helpful.Bud
