Pirates in the Sky ?

I don't think that's a fair assessment of Google or any other search engine for that matter. Search engines index ALL publically accessible sites automatically via spiders and bots...there is VERY little human monitoring of the tens of millions of websites that are indexed daily by search engines. Out of those there are literally tens of thousands of questionable sites that pop up, disappear or linger about each day. Out of those questionable sites there are thousands of P2P sites that legitmately offer software, music and other downloads with the full permission of the authors - AND provide a valuable service. No not all P2P sites are bad and not all torrent sites have anything to do with warez. To in turn blame a search engine company, such as Google, to then expect them to go back and manually attempt to decide who is ligitimate or who is not, who is violating copyrights and who is not, is unreasonable and impossible due to the number of sites on the Internet. This would be the equivalent of expecting a security guard in a shopping mall to perform a background check on each and every person who walks through the door. And in this case search engines are NOT the Internet police. As is the norm on the Internet, it polices itself and law enforcement investigates any intellectual property infractions. Piracy is a blight on the software market just like crime is a blight on society. But to blame search engines as contributing to piracy is totally misguided. Search engines have the OPPOSITE effect actually because it brings pirate sites to light for all to see! The fact that very few people report them to law enforcement is the problem. If sites are violating your intellectual property then call the police, however, that is not the job of a search engine.
Hi,I understand your point, but what saddens me is that when you search for a software, you get torrents among the first websites.

I absolutely agree. I am teaching myself Photoshop and any time I type Photoshop in Google I get more links to torrents than I do for websites that are of any use! Same thing if you type a popular FS addon into Google while looking for a review or information you get mostly torrent sites! If I were a developer I'd pull all my hair out!Unfotunately, the fix for this is to require all addons to authenticate against a server each time it is launched. Online games such as World of Warcraft require connectivity to an authentication server each time it is launched and if the key is found to be invalid, repeatedly launched from multiple IP addresses, or if multiple people log on with the same key at the same time your account will be suspended. All addons should come from a central store and when FS is lanched all keys are authenticated at random intervals. Yes, its not an ideal solution, but it will stamp out a lot of piracy.

If you do--BUY IT. Support our hobby. These people do not make millions from us. One developer I know is a man of faith, another (I believe) is in law enforcement. They have day jobs (some 24x7 jobs) and they deliver our products out of (for lack of a better word) love.Regards,John
I don't even have a day job. I made the scenery to compliment my flight lessons that have long since crapped out. I've had an excellent response to my efffort but the numbers don't add up leaving me short of my goals. I have the "passion" and it cost me $1500 this year. The "Good" part is, my wife says it keeps me off the streets. The "Bad" part is, I have no money for beer. The "Ugly" part is, that an entire simming community (including my customers) are unable to help me succeed. There are 1945 views on this post currently. We Care, but what can we do? General Aviation has an advocate with the AOPA. They send me lots of junk mail but they do serve an important purpose of binding together a group of people with common interests. I think the simming community needs such an organization. Especially given the progress of one Major Simulator software vendor this past year. We possess all of the talents and abilities to complete such a task.I'm a good catalyst, anyone dare to be a leader?

Larry-all I can say you have gone way beyond customer support and expectations. I signed up for the Western US from you and instead get the entire US with flash drives mailed to me with return postage included to mail them back. This goes way beyond the call of duty on a package that was already a bargain. Therefore the piracy, lack of beer, lack of flight lessons, and lack of numbers adding up are simply not acceptable. Trust me-the majority care. We want to make a difference. There has to be an answer against this piracy which conspires to bring our hobby down. I don't know what the answer is but perhaps instead of the catalyst you should instead be the leader? In any case I hope eventually you will turn a profit from your hard work, the pirates will be punished, and you will be able to resume your flying lessons with a nice beer afterwords!
