Installing Acceleration

Featured Replies

I currently have FSX SP2 installed, but now I have bought acceleration. However when trying to install it It asks me to uninstall SP2. If I do this from control panel will I have to reinstall all of my addons? Or can I just uninstall sp2 then install acceleration and everything will work normally?ThanksJames Crowther

Hi James, I had FSX SP2 installed and had to do the same when I installed acceleration. It shouldn't effect any of your addons. There were no issues for me with doing it. In fact reinstalling SP2 can fix bugs and is often a recommended thing to do. It shouldn't cause any issues with your addons, but if you have a lot of settings in your controls (standard.xml) you might want to make a backup and manually edit the new one later. It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure I did have to redo all of my settings (not for FSUIPC) such as graphics settings, realsim, etc. Backup your FSX.cfg also, but only if you have lots of tweaks. Lastly don't use your backups for anything other than reference for manually editing it later.

The Acceleration Pack already contains the service packs and a few other stuff (new craft, missions,etc...). It is the last update to the FSX.

Just want to know if adding acceleration improves frmaerates are adds anything significant to simulator experience because I have deluxe version with SP2 and not really interested in new missions. Just wondering is it worth my while upgrading. Thanks a lot guys.

One thing to remember about Acceleration is that it does have quite a negative effect on a certain 767 addon. It causes issues (acknowledged by LDS) with engine starts and loss of INIT REF data.

Not in my opinion, aside from the SP2 I think the rest is just typical default MSFS stuff. No impact on performance that I have ever read about either.

If there is an addon developer out there that openly tells their customer base not to use SP2 or if their product has negative effects with SP2 then I wouldn't buy a thing from them. It's been out long enough that they should have made any needed (if any changes).

I dont mean to contradict whats already been said, but i had a good fsx sp2 setup and after uninstalling sp2 and putting acceleration on i had problems with cloud and autogen popping. After reinstalling fsx rtm, then acceleration only, everything was good. I dont recommend putting acceleration over your current installation. Here is a thread that has some interesting things: http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic32088.htmlI havent noticed a performance increase using acceleration, but the fact that it adds a further 16 event id's and 38 simulation variables to the sdk is what i wanted from it.David Ranieri.

I don't think I saw any performance increase with Acceleration or that any could, but if someone went from an SP1 install to acceleration then I think they obviously would, but of course that's because SP2 is being installed.I don't think is contradicting at all and the more info the better, but just as a thought to throw out there; There have been many times I have installed FSX the same exact order and had bugs on some installs and none on others. It is possible that someone experiences an abnormallity when uninstalling and reinstalling, but I think overall it's rare and it there seems to be a lot of things happening when SP2 is installed and is probably the reason some issues are cleared up for people when they are told to reinstall SP2. Basically there are many things we don't understand or why each install goes in a different direction than another and I think that is most likely the case there. Just my opinion.

Well i uninstalled SP2 and installed Acceleration over the top and it seems to work fine, for now at least. Only time will tell if something isn't working properly. As a bonus it even kept all my settings (although reverted my controls so it could set up the carrier ops stuff). Thanks for the help.

Dan - the issues with the 767 are caused by Acceleration not SP2. It works fine with SP2.

Thats true Dan, with everyone reporting so many different results from so many different tweaks, all you can do with fsx is trial and evaluate.(good fun :( )David.

Very true, that is the main point about all installations in my opinion.
