Upcoming FSD Pilatus Porter

Most likely it will be the same as with the Cheyenne, pretty much the way you describe it.

David,To my knowledge, once you purchase the Aircraft the website will give you a License ID and password, then when you install the software, it will authenticate against their server (Similar to Flight1). Whether they allow multiple installations on your personal PCs I am unsure. As far as machine locking, again, I am unsure. I am sure it would be better if you asked on their support forum (www.fsd-international.com). They would answer with the most important information. Whereas here we can only speculate on what is the real situation. The guys are extremely helpful in explaining their procedures, and seem flexible once you explain your situation.Personally I haven't had any problems with the install procedure. Hop over to their site and drop them a note.

However, if you elect to uninstall and reinstall windows ever you will need to email them and grovel before they will reopen your account and let you reinstall.I found the system difficult and awckward. Plus, I experienced fairly terse replies from some of their support staff. To compare their system to Flight1`s is very unfair on Flight1. The Flight1 system allows you to revalidate your licence using the last 4 digits of your credit card. This means that you can bust and reinstall windows to your heart`s content and revalidate without having to wait.Be warned. FSD Products are excellent but their security system and my customer service "experience" with them will certainly prevent me from purchasing any more of their products.Rant overCheersLungs

The system we have now looks at hardware changes before a license has to be reverified. We understand that many prefer to reinstall their operating system from time to time, and have made the change to accomodate for that.Best,Owen

HI OwenThat`s really good that you have listened to customers` gripes about your security system. The quality of your products means that I will probably crack and buy the Porter in the end (!)It still doesn`t mitigate Tim Dickens` accusative stance throughout my dealings with FSD, unfortunately.RegardsLungs

"Be warned. FSD Products are excellent but their security system and my customer service "experience" with them will certainly prevent me from purchasing any more of their products."I'm not interested in the full story as this is not my business, but it looks like the customer service is in pair with the quality of the products as seen from the proactive decision of FSD to extend their licensing system as well as to take the time to come in this forum!Inn a sense, thank you Lungs for your feedback (disgruntled feedback), to better help vendors improve their offering.

Hi Owen,"The system we have now looks at hardware changes before a license has to be reverified."I own most of FSD's past offerings, but no longer have them installed. The last airplane I bought was the Seneca V... purchased about six months ago. Since that time I have changed my:MotherboardCPUMemoryOSSorry, but I'll be passing on the Porter this weekend (and the Navajo in the future... one I was especially looking forward to). Like many in this hobby, I'm the sort who chooses to upgrade my hardware on a scheduled basis throughout the year. I upgrade a component or two 3-4 times a year. Having to go through the reverification process is simply too time consuming and inconvenient for my liking. There are other options in payware that are easier to own.Good luck with the Porter this weekend... it looks stunning.Regards,

Thanks for all of the replies. As I feared, I won't be able to do what I like with the Porter. Whenever I want or need to make a change I am going to have to contact FSD for, effectively, their permission. This really is a great pity as I have been looking forward to this a/c for a long time. So, the bottom line is I won't be buying from FSD any more. However, thankfully there are a lot of really good freeware a/c out there so let's hope they will continue.David

Whats the agenda here? Banging on FSD before the products have even been released. You cant complain about the quality. You cant complain about their commitment or dedication to providing PAYING customers a product that no other company attempts to or has the ability to provide. So you complain about a make believe problem with reinstalls and hastles with the security. The only problems you are going to have with the FSD Porter and security is one that is caused by either stealing it or giving it to someone else. Other that that you will have no problems. If thats to much of a restriction then tough! In my opinion what this is really about is that fact the FSD has figured out how to keep people from STEALING their product. What this means to some of you is if you dont purchase it you aint going get it. WHAAA!Dennis Waggoner

"Whats the agenda here?"Seems you're the one with an agenda, Dennis, I OWN all my FSD products! Bought and paid for! Downloads, keys, the whole shebang! All backed up on CD, safely tucked away in my desk. I don't appreciate you inferring that I have stolen anything, or that I would give it away illegaly (for crying out loud... figure it out! Why would anyone who has paid the price of admission GIVE AWAY what they've worked to buy? DUH!!!).You have difficulty seeing much past the coming weekend. I have no doubt that if I bought this weekend the Porter would install without problems. That's not my concern. My concern is six months from now, after I've upgraded hardware and need to re-install the Porter for any reason, the hoops I might have to jump through to get that done. I've had that problem in the past, and it simply is not worth the trouble to me. Try to see the big picture here!I'm glad FSD is happy with their anti-piracy concepts. I support them fully in their efforts. That doesn't mean I'll buy their products. It's a simple matter of the consumer making choices. That's all. Stop trying to make agendas where they don't exist.Let me explain it all so that you can understand... IT'S MY MONEY AND I'LL SPEND IT AS I WISH. ON THE PRODUCTS I WISH.Got it now?

Does anyone know what FSD's security policy will be?Before I consider buying the Porter I would like to know if it is going to be locked into the PC I d/load it on and will I need to get another licence key if I want to transfer it to my laptop etc.Whilst I am all in favour of anti-piracy measures I don't care for purchases which restrict me by requiring that I have to keep logging into someone else's website whenever I want to do something.Thanks.David

Six months from now if you buy a new computer or put a new motherboard in you Computer you probably wont even have to contact FSD. But if you do have to ask for a new license they have this great new way to communicate across the internet. Can we spell E..M..A..I..L. good now you can reduce your "hoops" to a few mere pecks on you keyboard.RegardsDennis Waggoner
