October 4, 200322 yr I created my flight plan from KSFO to KSEA (IFR). After takeoff from 19R, ATC told me to turn to 005 degrees. After the step climb to 32000 ft, ATC NEVER told me to "resume own navigation." When I tried to intercept the flight plan route, ATC told me to expedite turn to 005 degrees!!! I finally ended up in EASTERN WASHINGTON and had to cancel IFR to get to KSEA. Why does ATC do such a poor job?Airbus Al Kaupa Digital Storm purchased 8/17/2011; Win7x64: Asus P8P67 Deluxe; Intel i7 2600K@3,9 GHZ; nVidia GTX 560Ti; 8GB DDR3 1600 Corsair Dominator; Power Corsair HX 750W; Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD; 300GB WD VelociRaptor; 1TB Seagate.
October 5, 200322 yr That is why I still use Radar Contact for ATC. FS9 ATC is better than the FS2002 ATC was but still far shy of measuring up to Radar Contact.William
October 5, 200322 yr I've had this happen too. When it happens I just cancel IFR, go to the flight planner, set the flight up again (don't think I had to re-enter anything) then said ok. Just make sure you don't click yes to have FS9 put you at the start location of the flight plan...
October 5, 200322 yr I've seen it happen - but fortunately it appears to be a very rare occurance. The best solution is to ensure the first waypoint isn't very close to the departure airport. I recommend placing your first waypoint 20-30 miles out - having a waypoint close to (or on) the airport sometimes confuses the ATC.Regards,Marc
October 5, 200322 yr I was gona make a new topic but i will add my question here.Im doing a PSS Airbus flight from KLAX to KMIA (Miami Intl). Anyway i wanna make it so i have an option to land on a ILS runway, but the stupid ATC wont let me. It insists i land on Rwy30 which is only a LOC runway and possibly the shortest runway. It does not give me the option to change runway.Any suggestion to fix this?
October 5, 200322 yr More ATC problems here, in my recent post:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...&mesg_id=149083Yes, why does ATC do this? In my opinion fs9 ATC is worse than FS2002 ATC.Nico
October 7, 200322 yr Getting back to the original topic..For added reality, don't use runway 19 (R or L) at SFO for take-off. a) The wind hardly ever blows that way.:( There's a major freeway just the other side of the blast fencec) There's some serious terrain within 3-4 NM.I'd recommend you set the wind (if you don't use real weather) to about 320 - 340 degs and try taking off on 1R or 1L across the bay. That way, the initial turn to 005 will be much easier to make.Typical traffic patterns at SFO are:Landing 28 R & LTake-off 1R & L except Heavy (although I've seen the occasional 777 take off that way)Take-off Heavy 28 R & L (Mostly R)Often in the winter months Landing on 19 R & L.Very rarely (I've only seen it once and it's a scary approach) Landing on 1R. If you're familiar with AFCAD, I'd suggest modifying the runway details to close the 19's for take-off. Watch the airport monitor here http://www4.passur.com/sjc.html but zoom out to 40 miles for the whole bay area. Traffic is pretty dense most of the time.Have fun (from a Bay Area Flyer)Keith
October 7, 200322 yr Author I have had this happen to me. But I just followed what ATC told me and then they got me on the right track. Just do what ATC says. The reason they are telling you to turn to a heading that seems funny is maybe because your first waypoint was too close to the departure airport. For example and on airport VOR.
October 8, 200322 yr One way to get back on course with out canceling IFR is to follow ATC. But, when ATC hands you off to the next sector, acknowledge the hand-off, but don't contact ATC. Now turn to intercept your real flight plan. Once you've intercepted your flight plan, contact ATC and all should be fine.RJ
