November 1, 201015 yr I am going to have to call off this experiment for the lack of one tool...a duplicate texture file finder which understands FS9. Flightsim Manager used to handle this function flawlessly...when everything FS was on one drive. Seperating my addon scenery to another HDD has thrown FSM for a loop and it can no longer find texture dupes...dupes which are there, in several folders. Duplicate textures, on my system, are an almost guaranteed system lockup, at some point. I've tried 12 different duplicate file finding softwares...but they do not understand how FS9 works. They find every "lm" version of a texture as a dupe to the daylight version...sigh! I do not understand why FSM won't work now...it supposedly uses my Scenery.cfg for this , and other functions? But, I'm over it. Until scenery developers learn that many of us have many textures already installed (RNW12, EZscenery, etc.) in the standard folder (Static Objects Library) and they stop including them, automatically, in their sceneries, I cannot continue this multi HDD installation experiment. That, or I need to find a tool which will find these duplicates, over several HDD's, and understands FS9 textures (LOL!, I'm not holding my breath!). The other thing I've done is to buy an Xbox 360. Turn it on, throw in a game disc...PLAY. Simple as that. No tweaking, no crashes, no "CTD's" no nothing but perfect operation. After 16 years of MSFS...I might finally be reaching the point where I'm "over it". It's becoming more work and aggravation than fun...by far. Victor Buck
November 1, 201015 yr Keep it simple! Just hop in the 172 and do some flying (even better in the Carenado!)....That is what I do when it all goes wrong (CTD and so on)..... :Big Grin:After a short while I am ready again for more FS punishment. :( Al Stiff
November 1, 201015 yr While you decide whether or not to continue debugging your multiple screen setup, Strider, an overhead lazer projector will fill an entire living room wall with an amazingly crisp, panoramic view of your flight deck and external scenery. There is a lot to be said for the multiple monitor approach you have been working on, particularly for home sim 'pit builders, but my minimalist flight deck consisting of yoke, rudder pedals and throttle quadrant, set up facing a wall-sized projected image 15 feet away, delivers an immersive enough sensation of movement to have me leaning into turns. Descending through 800 feet AGL, and preparing to carve that checkerboard hard right turn for short finals into runway 13 of Fly Tampa's Kai Tak Airport, my LevelD 767-ER swoops over a view of Hong Kong harbor that still takes my breath away, thanks to that projected scenery. Just thought I'd mention this very worthwhile plug-and-play alternative to multiple screens.Tony Selarion Best regards from Tony, at the helm of the flying desk.
November 1, 201015 yr Vic,Don't we all get ###### like that!!I do what Al says after those moments, hop in a simple GA bird and just fly with the default scenery...And, I agree with you on game consoles, no worries with my PS3, just feed the CD sit back and enjoy!! :( Onur K. That should be transparent to Flightsim Manager, but some installers might have issues.
November 27, 201015 yr Thats funny, so many times I thought the same, my xbox 360 seems to always accept cd's and always seem to play them without any issues, no hardware requirements to look for etc. FS on the other hand, well, thats another story. Makes me wonder why I keep coming back sometimes, But I DO keep coming back :( Intel I7 12700KF / 32 GB Ram-3600mhz / Windows 11 - 64 bit / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060TI / 32" Acer Monitor, Honeycomb alpha/bravo, CH rudder pedals, Tobii 5, Buttkicker, Logitech radio panel.
November 27, 201015 yr Thus the reason for the popularity of consol gaming. Turn on and play, no tweaking or updating drivers. And with a simple platform for a developer to work with it saves time/money and headaches for them too. With PC games developers have to account for the vast array of computer parts and configurations not to mention drivers....One big reason we will see no more EA sports games for the PC!!Computer gamers are fading fast!
