737 NGX STROBES

Featured Replies

Glad to hear the great news on the continuing development on the NGX. We have heard almost everything which has been done to the aircraft down to the last screw by the sounds of things ! Here's my one and only question, something that's been bothering me throughtout my Flight Sim experience. **AIRCRAFT STROBES** Now first of all they are never constant and always seems to go off whenever they want as you get into the flight which is unrealistic, especially night flying ! The only model that I have seen with the correct sequence of the single strobe and then beacon is the Ariane 737 but this still, after a bit into the flight it fades away and all the beacons and strobes go off at differnat times. I'm curious to know if you have found away to make it realistic in this model or can it be done at all ? I like the way way Airbus have their unique "double strobe" then beacon on a constant rythem ! That way you can always tell between a Boeing and Airbus :( Keep up the good work on the NGX I cant wait myself, The longer the better is good in a way I suppose!CheersJamie

Would like to add that I'm hoping for landing/taxi lights that actually light up the scenery, once you've used it you can't go back - it adds so much mire realism.

Can anyone confirm that these 'Shockwave 3D Lights for FSX" work with the PMDG aircraft or do PMDG use there own exterior lights/beacons? Does this package enhance other FSX non-aircraft lighting effects? Overall opinions?

Cheers, Scott Ball

The problem I believe with replacing the wingtip lights is they won't bend with the wings and the effect looks stupid in midair above or below the wing tip edge

Shockwave's lights can pretty much work with any aircraft you add them to, since they are basically a custom FS particle effect that you position on your aircraft geometry with a three dimensional coordinate entry into the config file, replacing the ones that are already there creating the standard nav lights with the default nav light particle effects. But it's a bit 'swings and roundabouts' with those and other custom nav light effects, for example, the Ariane FSX 737's wingtip lights look really great at night, with them appearing to illuminate clouds as you come down on an approach into claggy weather, but the effect looks overdone in the daylight, as it does with Shockwave's lights. The same is kind of true with how those Ariane lights illuminate the ground when on the taxiways, it looks good from some angles on the apron at night, but in other situations, it can look overdone. In most cases, it's not really the fault of the creators of such lights that they only work well under certain circumstances, much of that is simply down to what FS is actually capable of displaying, and so it often results in a less than perfect compromise to get a novel effect. Personally, I think the ones in FS Elemental for FS9 were one of the best set of nav light tweaks attempted for FS, especially the green, which looks very convincing.I really do wish it was possible to have a convincing red nav light on the fuselage of FS airliners, as it always looks rather pathetic in the sim compared to the real things.Al

Oh, ok, I got me those 3D lights redux for FS9 and they look great, but don't light the scenery really, at least it doesn't look to me like they do

Sorry, but these are not the same as the L39 landing lights. The L39 uses a polygon which, with a bit of clever maths and bone animation, is kept on the ground. Due to the specific material settings used it lights up the terrain beneath it. The exact method is described here: http://www.aerodynamika.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1260387802/0#0If an aircraft would like to use the L39 style lights then it must be coded as part of the model and cannot be added as an addon.Shockwave lights use the standard FSX effects system which doesn't light the ground (but will light the aircraft).Anthony Lynch

I never claimed that they are the same and I don't know what you are talking about but the lights on my VRS F/A-18E do illuminate the ground and they use a license version of A2A Simulations 3D Lights. Something to back me up:gbhsg29y.pngpbkgucml.png

The FSX version of the F/A-18E does not use A2A lighting. That was an FS9 feature. If you see the link that was used above, the poster who is explaining how to do the lighting effects is Jon Blum, the lead developer at VRS.
