November 21, 201015 yr Hi,I am trying to track down exactly why the Level-D 767 and PMDG 747-400 (perhaps others, but those are the two I am having problems with) will not work properly on my new PC (specs as per signature at the foot of this post). I know I am not the only one who has this problem - FS goes to a black screen when you open PMDG or Level-D menus from the FS menu bar. But is it Windows 7, or is it the 64-bit environment (same problems in XP 64-bit??), or an nVidia issue?I'd be very interested to hear from anyone who has either of these a/c installed and has no problems accessing and setting the menus (black screens). What are the specs of your machine? Likewise, if anyone has the same problems it'd be good to compare notes. The problem with the Level-D is here (my post there on 20/11 explains in more detail) - the PMDG issue is fairly similar:http://www.leveldsim.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=22293&PID=153780#153780Thanks!Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)

November 21, 201015 yr Author Could you say what your PC specs are please? Sounds like it may be an issue with Windows 7M> Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
November 21, 201015 yr Could you say what your PC specs are please? Sounds like it may be an issue with Windows 7M>HelloE8600@4ghzNvidia GTX260-216 with 182.50 driversWindows XP64 with FS9 and FSX on a separate disc.. everything else on a WideFS client (Old IBM thinkpad T-42)I have no issues at all either in FS9 or FSX in switching to the desktop or accessing menus with any high end payware.Tried Windows7-64 then gave it to the wife to use, She likes pretty things whilst I prefer things that just work
November 22, 201015 yr Hi folks, I am using the PMDG 737 8-900 and 747 and all went well thih win 7 64 bit until last Friday 19/11/10, at this point my PMDG menu in FS9 failed. The menu drops down but if I attempt to move to a setting I get the black screen. I have changed nothing on Win 7. I reinstalled the aircraft and the problem persisted, I reinstalled FS9 and still no luck. I am suspecting a Win 7 update may have caused the problem as it just failed out of the blue. I will update my Nvidia druivers and start again with FS9 as the next step and see how things go.All advice welcome.ThanksDallas
November 23, 201015 yr Hi again, I found that by switching the 737NG out of full screen mode to a window I can then use the PMDG menu with no trouble at all then switch back to full screen. I think some WIN 7 update may be the cause of the original problem.Dallas.
November 23, 201015 yr Author I have never had any problems with the PMDG 737s, I must say. In fact, having reloaded the 747 onto the new PC, as long as I don't try to open PMDG menus in full screen (when everything goes black) all is fine (at the moment anyway). All other menus from the FS9 menu bar cause no problems. Flew a 747 from EDDF to EGLL today - everything worked beautifully with great frame rates all through the flight. Wonderfully smooth panning in spot view...The Level-D 767 still has issues though - I still cannot open the Level-D menus whether in full screen or windowed mode without things blacking out. I start up the a/c with fuel preloaded and cold and dark and so I don't have to access the menus. Still have a problem with some instruments flickering in the 2D cockpit. Maybe a future graphics drivers update will fix that.Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
November 25, 201015 yr I have Windows 7 64 bit and have no problem with the menus going black. The system is always kept updated with the latest patches and I have LevelD, PMDG747, PMDG737 and PMDGMD11 and use FS9. I have them also for FSX but since I never use that sim I haven't reflected on that behaviour there. The only beef I have with Windows 7 is that the mouse pointer disappears all the time when in the start up menu. It's actually never and moving around, but it's invisible until you move it to some certain spot on the screen when it pops up again.I do use an ATI5870 card so might it be Nvidia related? November 25, 201015 yr I use both. No problems whatsoever, FSX or FS9, W7Ult.64bit.Unfortunately, I've go no idea what could be causing that. My hardware is in the sig. And your hardware is not far from mine, except GPU.
November 27, 201015 yr Author It's not the other addons I have, because this time, after installing FS9 (.1), the Level-D 767 was the first thing I added to the setup. Immediate problems.. Odd (and very annoying - for me, that is!!) that you have no problems and I do. At least I am not alone, some comfort I suppose!Maybe a graphcis driver update at some stage in the future will fix things. Otherwise, I can fly the 767 as long as I start the flight as i want it and don't need to access the Level-D menus. Still have gauges flickering in the 2D cockpit... Hmmmm..Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
June 25, 201312 yr PMDG 747x works fine for me, windows 8 pro x64, AMD Turion Dual Core 2.3 GHz (really terrible computer) and 4 gigs of ram. Patrick Gelvin
July 1, 201312 yr Author Just to update .. I no longer have any problems at all with these a/c, though I don't remember now what happened to fix the issue. Maybe it was a new graphics driver?? Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
