November 21, 201015 yr I have just started a world tour in FS9 and haven't really planned all of it so was looking for ideas or suggestions of where I should go and the must-sees of the FS9 world. There aren't many sites out there documenting world tours in FS but I'm sure it's been done loads.Anyone got any experience to share?
November 21, 201015 yr The last time I did one of these I was just happy to make it without hitting a single default airport -- that might be a goal for you if you're an addon scenery nut like me. Also, my VA sponsored a "7 Wonders of the Modern and Ancient World" event, whereby we had to pick what was considered 7 wonders of each epoch, research the geographic area and determine which airports we had to fly into on our own. We were only allowed 100 km variance, I think it was -- a distance which could comfortably shuttle tourists to and from the aiport by bus. Quite a challenge! Smooth Skies! -- Chuck B. November 21, 201015 yr Here's some suggested places to visit: http://www.simtours.net/tours.phpAlso come visit us in Warsaw using this excellent freeware EPWA scenery: epwa2010v12.zip Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)
November 21, 201015 yr When I did that trip with FS, I did it with First Class Simulations' Around the World in 80 Flights add-on, which has a 'points of interest' route rather than a 'fastest way around' route, so it take in things like nice views in Africa, sceneic bits of Europe etc. You can find some freeware route plans too if you search about, but that add-on does have a really well thought out route. You really should include a flight up around Finland to Archangel, and fly that at night. That way you get to see the Northern Lights in FS, which are really rather cool. Sion in Switzerland is worth a visit for the tricky approach and departure and the mountainous terrain. Obviously the Himalayas are worth a fly by, as is Kilimanjaro and Victoria Falls. Cairo is worth a detour for the Pyramids too. The Grand Canyon is worth a look, as is Niagara Falls. The Urals are pretty cool in FS, especially if you have real world weather on, as they kick of some really frightening turbulence that is kind of fun.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
November 21, 201015 yr I am currently on a world tour as well. I started in KSBD and am currently in KFHR. I use Digital Aviation's Piper Cheyenne. For points of interest I use FS Discover (available at the flight1 website). You can plan routes in advance, and all points of interest that are available in FS9 and FSX are indicated on a map. Also, all landmarks can be displayed as text in FS9. It's really worth getting.
November 21, 201015 yr Here's a few interesting airports that come to mind:Princess Juliana International Airport (TNCM)Santos Dumont (SBRJ) and Antonio Carlos Jobim International (SBGL) in Rio De JaneiroCanary IslandsMadeiraAtaturk Airport (LTBA), IstanbulCorfu (LGKR) in Greece is also a great place to visit.Paro Airport (VQPR), Bhutan - offers a challengeRussia:Pulkovo (ULLI), Saint-PetersburgSochi (URSS)Nizhnevartovsk (USNN)Tolmachevo (UNNT)etc......(generally you're spoiled for choice when it comes to quality freeware scenery for Russia)Also in my native Bulgaria can choose from:Sofia (LBSF)Varna (LBWN)Burgas (LBBG)Plovdiv (LBPD)if you're flying with a smaller aircraft - can also try the challenging Lukla Airport (VNLK) in Nepal. .............Also come visit us in Warsaw using this excellent freeware EPWA scenery: epwa2010v12.zipFor Poland, this Airport has been done really well too - Gdansk Rebiechowo Airport (EPGD) - 'epgd_2008.zip'. Also there's very good scenery for the city of Gdansk itself. There's a lot of places to visit, way too many to list them all.........
November 21, 201015 yr Thankyou for your replies so far. My previous tour route can be found on my blog (link above) and I managed to cover some of the popular places in FS like Lukla and Juliana. This time I am trying to find some of the hidden gems so your ideas so far are ideal!Planning to cover Russia, northern Scandinavia (it's amazing in the winter!) and South America. Currently I'm heading through central Africa into Europe with plans to cover Gibraltar, the Alps etc so I will definitely call into Poland and Bulgaria as well.Keep them coming!
