November 21, 201015 yr After not flying in it for quite some time now, I rediscovered the Quest Kodiak from Lionheart Creations. Great plane. Pretty fast, STOL, etc. and I specially like the G1000: you can easily see all names of airports on the map and even the runways themselves. Makes approaching an unknown airport very easy to do.However, after starting here up again, I was immediately reminded of my main annoyance with this plane: there is a rather irritating noise at the right. It is a high pitched er... squelching (if that is the right word) sound. It's a bit like a morse code: short long pause long pause and then it repeats. It is CONSTANTLY there and it really annoys me...Maybe someone knows how to get rid of that sound...? The engines sound perfectly fine: it's just that high sound at the right that's repeated over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over, well, you get my point. :( Maybe I can remove some sort of sound file or edit something else...?

You could just delete the offending file and it will not play or edit the sound.cfg file and put a "//" double forward slash in front of those commands that refer to the offending sound. And or replace the sound file with an edited version. Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3
November 21, 201015 yr I don't have the plane so I can't help u out more than this: I'd go into FSX/Simobjects/Airplanes/Kodiak(or whatever that airplane folder's called)/Sound and listen through the .wav sound files using media player, identifying which one is that annoying sound. Then I'd edit it in audacity or some other sound editor, making it more quiet or mute it completely. If you're having trouble doing this yourself, PM me and we can sort it out in notime.
November 21, 201015 yr Thanks for the tips. I found out the plane uses the default C208B sounds...! I listened to all of them but didn't hear the annoying sound I hear while flying... Odd...
November 21, 201015 yr I have this airframe, and I crawled in, cranked it up, flipped every switch in the cockpit and I didn't have that sound. Turn off your Avionics buss switch and tell me if the sound goes away.
November 22, 201015 yr I have this plane - one of my favorites - but I don't have the annoying noise.Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." Gandalf: "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
November 22, 201015 yr Hm, odd, maybe my ears are too good. ;) The sound is 'hidden' in the engine sounds, but I can hear it all the time nonetheless. All FSX engine sounds are loops and sometimes you can hear that clearly. This is something like that, but this time only a part of the loop is apparent. Maybe it's that kind of sound you don't hear until you suddenly heard it once, after which you can't stop hearing it, if you know what I mean. :( I will try to turn off the avionics (and other things) and see if that makes a difference. But the sound clearly changes when changing rpm, so I can't imagine it's the avionics...
November 22, 201015 yr Well, it must be me... Since this plane uses the sounds from the FSX default C208B, maybe someone else could give that plane a try and listen carefully to the complete right, if you hear something there.BTW For now, as a test, I simply redirected the Carenado Bonanza F33A sounds to the Kodiak... :( So far it works like a charm. Probably not to realistic, er...? Didn't know this could be done so easily...!
November 22, 201015 yr Commercial Member It's a bit like a morse code: Could it be a 'lot' like a morse code? :( I'd confirmed this isn't a navAid ident signal. If you have a station tuned on Nav1 or Nav2 and the audio panel set to ident that signal - you'll get a morse code. This configuration could be stored in your default flight, btw. It's worth ruling this out before exploring other possibilities ;)Danny
November 22, 201015 yr Moderator Use the "audio control panel" to turn off the identifier sounds for whichever one is activated... :( Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
November 23, 201015 yr Thats why I suggested turning off the Avionics buss. Clearly remove the comm and nav as a source. Work from system to system. If you say its an engine sound, can you please give us your sound settings, so we can duplicate yours to see if that will cause it to show up on our systems. Let us know if you have sound acceleration enabled too.
November 23, 201015 yr It isn't a radio. I'm not that stupid. ;) Did you ever hear the sound of a radio go up and down when you move the throttle......? :( Radio sounds are very obvious and clear too, so that isn't it. I tried turning on and off all systems (yes, also avionics) but the sound is part of the engine (it goes up and down when the throttle goes up and down). I also tried every possible setting that's available in my soundcards CP (Creative X-Fi gamer os something like that). I turned every option on and off (AEX, 3D, CMS, whatever there is) and it didn't make a difference (I am using the gamers preset and the 2 speakers setup). But right now I have to say I am VERY happy with the Bonanza F33A sounds I am using (and the fuel pump sound from the C208B, because the F33A fuel pump is awful). It probably is totally unrealistic (is it?), but it sounds awesome (a lot better than the C208B sounds the Kodiak used by default!), so... for me the problem is solved. Thanks for the advice and thinking along! :(
