Stuck on Loading Terrain Data 6%

That's something I have always wondered about. Has anyone ever broken down just what is happening in the different parts of the loading cycle? I have always had a wait at 6% and some others.scott s..

I also wondered at times... ran a process monitor tool that showed the 100's of thousands of normal file accesses that FSX was performing and the virus monitoring that was also occurring as each was accessed by FSX - told the AV to stop monitoring everything except the OS.If you haven't defragged the OS, FSX and all add-on scenery, that also might help. I could certainly tell a difference afterward.Loyd

Hi People,I've had the same problem. For years FSX worked fine, then all of a sudden, I started having this problem. I deleted files to free up space on the hard drive. I tried turning off scenery, but that didn't work. I tried lowering all of the different textures. That didn't work either. Finally, I read a post from someone on this site that suggested that the virus scanner was trying to check out every texture, which is what took so long. I disabled the active protection on my Viper virus scanner and it worked. Now when I run FSX, I just disable it for a period of time. Try it. I was amazed.....

FSX was running perfectly on this Win7/64 system. Then one day it stopped on "loading terrain data" on 6% - and stayed there. Same thing kept happening every time that I tried to run it.In frustration I un-installed, removed all directories that I could find, cleaned the Registry, re-started the machine & re-installed.Selected the default flight & the same thing happened - stuck on 6%.Anybody got any idea what this might be, or how the h*** I can get round it?Thanks,Bernie

Hi guys,I've encountered the same issue recently but discovered that it was happening due to changes in Avast's scan exclusions options. Previously, in the Settings page, any exclusions added would work for both scheduled and real-time scanning. In the new version this got split so now one needs to specify exclusions also in the Real-Time Shields > File System Shield > Expert Settings > Exclusions page to prevent repeated file scans while FS is loading.Cheers, Holger
