Upgrade from Newegg?

Featured Replies

Hey guys! After a summer off playing outside I'm back at the sim with a fresh copy of FS9. It's been two years since I last upgraded (my upgrade cycle usually matches new FS releases) so I'm ready. It looks like Newegg.com has the best prices, but before I place the order I thought I'd check to see if what experiences others have had with this vendor. Now it just needs to start raining so I don't feel guilty about being inside at the sim...

First Rate! Use them almost exclusivly. I recently upgraded my machine with components from them and have had no issues whatsoever. Good Luck with your upgrade!

They are an excellent source for PC Hardware. I like their prices and excellent service. You will be happy dealing with them.

Always a very pleasant (and less expensive) experience working with newegg. Often get free shipping too. By far the best.Brew

I've bought all my upgrade components from Newegg and absolutely no reservations recommending them.Todd

I think they are one of the best!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Having spent over $50K purchasing equipment for the machines I build for clients and customers from them I can honestly say....The absolute best :)Second to none.Bobby

Absolutely a top-notch company. I wouldn't buy online anywhere else. Highly competitive pricing and their service is the best you'll find anywhere.Doug

Thanks for all the replies! It's great to be back. It seems that each year I sim Oct-Mar and by then I'm ready for something else and then about Sept start "jonesing" to get back at it. This past summer I got into the motorcycle thing and have had an absolute blast, so much that I didn't realize that my old avsim login had expired! I am also fortunate enough to have been given the green light to persue the purchase of a real plane, but until then MSFS with be my ticket to the skies...As long as I have your attention... Here's what I'm planning for the upgrade:Before:P4 1.8P4B266512k DDRATI 7500After:P4 2.8/800 HTP4P800 DeluxeCorsair TwinX1024 DDR400 1G matched set9800Pro ATI, not OEMPossibly a new power supply.Everything else to move forward. What do you think? From what I've read the P4 0.13 micron process is mature enough that just about every sample is capable of 3+Ghz, so don't think it's worth it to spend the extra $200 to get a P4 3.0 or even more to get the 3.2. A modest 10% OC will get me to 3.1 and I believe the board and memory listed above will support that with adequate stability. I think this should be about a doubling of simming power (not necessarily FR) for about $1kAnything you would do different?

I wouldn't use the old PSU unless it's a top-quality unit rated at 400W, or more. The new memory, video card, and mobo are going to need quite a few more electrons than the old ones. May as well eliminate a potential problem spot right at the beginning. I'd look at the dual-fan units from either Enermax or Antec.Doug
