December 11, 201015 yr Ive read Opa,s tips on installing FS2004 into windows 7.I'm also aware of the scenery bug.Are there any other tips or things which will make my installation easier. Ive alot to install, scenery and aircraft.I'm getting a i3 550 overclocked, 4 gb of 1600mhz of ram and a GTX460 card, in my new system. Should run FS2004 well I hope. What about the trick so that FS2004 recognises the extra ram? Thanks for your help in advance Steve

December 11, 201015 yr Author Good advice OPA, have you made the extra ram trick which ive read somewhere, but cant find now? steve
December 12, 201015 yr Would like to add my experience with a fresh install of FS2004/WIN7 on a new machine from Best Buy:HP Elite HPE-400y: AMD Phenom II Quad Core, 3.0GHz, 8GB DDR3 SDRAM,1TB SATA(7200rpm) HD, ATI Radeon HD 5450 Graphics with 512MB DDR3 dedicated memory, Windows 7 x64, 23" monitor (HP2310m) at 1920x1080.I still have my previous FS2004 on a six year old Dell with Win XP SP3, therefore copying folders and files was made easy using USB drives.Run as administrator with UAC OFF and anti-virus temporarily OFF.Installed FS2004 as C:\FS2004Ran the update patch from within the FS2004 folderInstalled: FSUIPC 3.98 FS Genesis Mesh (copied from scenery\world\scenery to same) Trees by Gerrish Gray Ultimate Terrain USA from CD GE Pro from D/L REX for FS2004 from D/L Zinertek's Ultimate Water, Night Environment, and A/P Environment from D/L World of AI (copy over WOAI data file and all woai traffic.bgl files from scenery\world\scenery AFCAD 221 (copy over AF2 bgl files from Addon Scenery\scenery AFCAD scanner (scanafd) Traffic Tools (copy over aircraft, airport, and flightplan files) RWY 12 FS9 Configurator 1.6 (fscfg16) AI Separation (fsaisv1.1) Gauges (copy over all gauge files, some will overright, but any for addon A/C will be copied) Effects (copy files, some will overright, the rest will copy) Texture (copy over files, overright when prompted) Addon Aircraft(copy over your addon A/C folders intact to the FS2004 Aircraft folder) (For WOAI A/C, do the copying over in small groups as this can take some time if you have many WOAI packages) Addon A/C with their own installers: re install (I only have Flight1's ATR72-500 and this works well) Fly Tampa's St Maarten: re install from your D/L (still have your registration key?). If you just copy over the scenery files your WOAI A/C will be 2-3 ft above ground. Copy over all your addon sceneries and add to the scenery library as outlined in the forums. This is my experience with FS2004 and WIN7. I am not a power user of flight sims nor a frequent poster, but I do visit the web sites every day seeking any helpful info. I would like to thank all the contributors who have made it possible for all of us to enjoy this hobby to its fullest.Thank you, Don
December 13, 201015 yr Author Thanks very much Don,Seems fairly simple if you follow a few set rules Steve
December 14, 201015 yr I would also advise after installing FS9 to right click on the FS9 icon, and go to properties/compatability... tick the boxes for "Disable visual themes" and "Disable desktop composition". Now when you start FS9 windows will turn off the active desktop feature of windows 7Peter Peter Schluter
