Landing/taxi lights 50 feet in front of aircraft

Featured Replies

How can I fix this? I assume custom halo files cause this to happen? What is the exact default file I need to restore so the landing lights go back to where they belong right in front of my Flight1 Pilatus PC-12Thanks

Hi,The spotlight.bmp and halo.bmp files are associated with exterior lighting and are located in the texture directory. However, this may not be the problem, did you check your aircraft.cfg file?. In particular the Lights section. I do not own the Pilatus PC-12 from flight 1, but a quick search found the light settings shown below.[LIGHTS]light.6 = 1, 1.678, 0.992, -0.691,light.7 = 8, 6.4973, -18.7666, 6.6184,light.8 = 4, 5.5000, 0.0000, 1.4000,light.9 = 5, 2. , -7.07666, -.84,light.10 = 5, 2. , 7.07666, -.84,light.11 = 8, 6.4973, 18.7666, 6.6184,light.12 = 6, 11.8, 0, -1.13,If these don't work, maybe someone with the Pilatus PC-12 can give you their lights settings. Incorrect settings in your aircraft.cfg file are more than likely the problem and not the bmp files located in your FS texture sub directory.

Position of the landing and taxi lights are set in the model file and not in any aircraft.cfg entry. It is possible that your "spotlight.bmp" file in the ..\Texture folder has been replaced by a "custom" version. The default file is dated 5/12/2006 4:26 AM and is 43KB in size.

I solved this problem (affecting beside the Pilatus also the Real Air Duke) unchecking the Landing Lights option in Rex.

Did your Landing/Taxi Lights problem look like this?? I have looked everywhere for a solution to this problem, with no luck.... I tried the Landing Lights option in REX, and it didn't work... taxilightsproblem2.jpgUploaded with ImageShack.us

Mark,I see you have the same problem I had some time ago: The ground illumination doesn't have a nice gradient but rather a color banding effect...To answer the question of the initial poster: I guess many will see this effect sooner or later for some reason (e.g. the installation or usage of a specific addon). The cure for the problem is to overwrite spotlight.bmp with a "working version". This file is responsible for ground illumination, how it looks, where it is, what color and luminousity it has, its shape etc.I eliminated both my problems (displaces ground illumination and color banding effect) by repeatedly manually overwriting spotlight.bmp with files from REX v2 until I was satisfied with what I saw in FSX. There are very few downloadable spotlight.bmp replacements (I found only one in the Avsim library, don't ask me the name of it), and I found them not as good as the ones that come with REX.Search the REX installation folder and the FSX folder for occurrences of the spotlight.bmp file, then you know where the REX files are and where the FSX file needs to be, then you can simply copy the file over from REX to FSX.Hope that helps...

Makes sense... One more question (for now): Do you still "uncheck" the REX Landing Lights Option?I will try this when I get home and report back....

Ok, found a solution for now... I tried using each of the Landing Light Files located in the REX Images/Lighting/Landing_Lights file. However, none of them changed the configuration of the lights, only the texture colors... I still had the same problem. I searched the AVSIM Library and found the spotlight.bmp enhancement file that was available, and gave it a try... SUCCESS!! The landing & taxi lights now light up the surface like they are supposed to!!My Next question: Where can I find the FSX original spotlight.bmp file so I can see if my original file was corrupt? Also: If the REX spotlight.bmp files did not fix the problem, are the REX files corrupt?Any help is greatly appreciated.THANKS AGAIN ahinterl!!!! I greatly appreciate it!!

I finally came to the same conclusion. Just uncheck all the light sections in rex and after restoring a working file everything is okay.
