RC5?

Featured Replies

Perusing the board I see RC5 being mentioned, am I missing something? Is there a new version nearing fruition?Well Just in case there is, I have 2 questions. Is it FS9 compatible? Will I loose my wonderful MCE/RC4 affair?

Wow, guess it's some secret. Looking back I see this release goes back three years??? WoW!

At this time RC5 is FS9 compatible as well as FSX. RC uses FSUIPC for its interface to the FS versions so as long as they work RC will work. It is being beta tested by both FSX and FS9 users among the team.RC4 should continue to function if you wish as it does now.Development was paused due to a few serious issues with developer jd and family and is expected to resume to a faster pace. The official word is "It is ready when it is ready.". jd is the only coder.Development is a large project since there was a great deal of code rewriting that needed to be done to handle revised menus, procedures, and function addressing a lot of requests from users and changes in real world ATC protocols. The recoding changes the RC underlying code structure to make adding and modifying modules more efficient so it would be easier to implement changes as required. For most coding purposes it was like code-wise starting over again.

Thanks Ronzie!!! Down to one coder, I can imagine it would be quite a delay. When/If it gets released don't forget us MCE users. By far the best combo addon I bought for FSX/FS9.

It always has been one coder, jd. The only other developer involved that provides his product services and that is only advisory coordination between RC and his FSUIPC products is Pete Dowson. He presents information to all developers on how to interface with FSUIPC functions and may develop requested additional functions.

Development is a large project since there was a great deal of code rewriting that needed to be done to handle...changes in real world ATC protocols.
Out of curiosity does this happen to include "Line up and wait" instructions in the US now?

Yes, I believe JD mentioned this has been implemented. Can anybody confirm this for me?

Question for ya then: I was considering RC4.3 for purchase. If version 5 comes out soon, then would I have to buy another copy? I have no problem supporting developers, I just don't want to spend $45 then another $$ for a newer version if at all possible. Is there going to be an upgrade discount for v4-v5 within a timeframe? I guess what I'm asking is if v5 is going to on market anytime in the next few months. If not then I'd be happy to purchase v4.3 and possibly upgrade much later. Thanks!Derald

I don't think RC5 will be available in a few months. It is a one man developer/coding crew and the beta team gives him no rest on details :) There is a lot of detail to be worked out and tested. It is a large expansion of functions from version 4 and incorporates many user function requests. There has been a previous policy of giving somewhat of a discount to current RC owners on a major upgrade such as from v3 to v4. I don't recall what that was.The two principals may decide to prorate the discount a bit depending on your version 4 purchase date and how close it was to the defined release date. You might convince them to treat it like a used car trade in on a new one where the used car mileage is taken into consideration. This doesn't sound like much but development labor has been very time consuming and laborious.
