NGX Navdata/sidstar format

Featured Replies

HelloWill the format of navdata and sidstar files be enhanced in any way for the NGX to introduce the missing features perhaps ?

AR and RF legs. I would reckon so as required by the new features.

Also a database of en-route holdings. Ability to program procedure holdings (those that exit automatically a.k.a. "racetracks") without using any tricks. I realize that at this stage of the development cycle you won't add that if it's not added already so I only ask is any of this in as of now.

Planepath.com has holds.

Don't understand what you mean by "procedure holdings" and "those that exit automatically".You can enter a holding in the PMDG 737 for FS9 within 15 seconds.Best Regards,Bert Van Bulck

A "database" of enroute holds would actually be unrealistic, as they aren't in the real aircraft either. They holds of which you speak are depicted on charts, and assigned by ATC as appropriate. Holds are easily added using the relevant function through the CDU. I suggest reading the manual. As mentioned above, it is very simple. As for the other routes, if they exist in the real world (at the time of release), they've always been a part of the database at purchase. AR and RF legs? Explain.

Enroute holds are not found in the database of any real-world FMS, so I'm sure that they would NOT be found in the simulated aircraft. The FMS does have a dedicated page to quickly and easily create a holding pattern at any waypoint. The real-world (and I assume PMDG) database does include holding patterns when they are part of an instrument approach procedure - either as part of the transition from the IAF to the FAF, or as part of the missed approach. Not every RW approach uses a holding pattern, but those that do have always been depicted correctly in my PMDG 747 and MD-11, which use the same nav database that will be used by the upcoming NGX, so far as I know. Not sure what the OP meant by "AR" routes. Is this in reference to the overwater routes off of the east coast of Florida (AR-1 etc.) connecting south FL and the Bahamas with points north?) If so, those are already in the PMDG database - I have flown them many times in the 747 and MD-11...Jim Barrett

Bert, what I'm referring to is described in the 737 NG FCTM (around page 4.23 IIRC). A short quote: "Procedure Holding - When a procedure holding pattern is selected from the navigation database and the FMC shows PROC HOLD on the legs page, the following is true when PROC HOLD is the active leg: - exiting the holding pattern is automatic; there is no need to select EXIT HOLD..."So it would be nice if someone from PMDG could tell us whether this works the way it is described in the real world manual. Also are the radius-to-fix legs implemented correctly?
