Best Headset for FS9

Featured Replies

I've been using a plantronics headset for the past 4 yrs and am experiencing a discernable "growl" when other pilots/ATC key their mics in squawkbox. I updated the sound driver with no luck so I am looking for a headset (USB) that works well within vista 64bit environment and VATSIM with squawkbox. Any suggestions?ThanksRich Perry

Hi Rich; I use a Logitech "Cordless Freedom" wireless headset...the 2.4GHz tramsceiver plugs into a USB port, and it's nice not having the cord in the way. Good audio, no issues with Vista64, FS9/FSX, or VATSIM on either the controller or airplane end of things. "Works good, lasts a long time." :( CheersBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

I also use a Logitech USB Headset - Logitech Clearchat PC Wireless - that works wonderfully. It's pretty expensive and really shouldn't be used for listening to music, but for VATSIM use it fits perfectly. My TrackIR Trackclip Pro is also attached to the device.

For FS9 your graphics equaliser should be "flat" or set for "Air Band" where 1k-16k should be at max and those below should not be more than 0db. These settings will give an approximation to the "real" voice sound as heard through aircrew headsets. The db pitch is set deliberately high. Many people seem to expect hifi quality voices from their sim. In the real world they are as far from hifi as one can get! Also turn off your effects and surround sound effect. It is these settings that usually create the unwanted crackle.vololiberista
