October 28, 200322 yr So, how is everyone liking the 3.8 cats or the newest omega drivers with flight sim? Just put the 3.8 omega drivers on last night, haven't fired up Flight Sim yet.I am still looking for what other Radeon 9700pro users are using for their display settings (AA settings)
October 29, 200322 yr I'm running the Omega Drivers based off of the Dell drivers; the second set released and they are stable on my machine. FS2004 runs good and behaves, plus they cured the menu flashing.I keep the frame rate locked at 20, and everything else nearly maxed out; autogen is at very dense so it drops into the low teens occassionally, but it's tolerable.I'm running 4x AA and 16x Ansi filtering....not a 9700 PRO, but a 9800 Pro.
October 29, 200322 yr "I'm running the Omega Drivers based off of the Dell drivers; the second set released and they are stable on my machine."......same here (rad_w2kxp_omega_2496b.exe). Have been running these for over a week now and have experienced no problems whatsoever - very stable drivers.MikeP4 2.4GHz (400FSB), 1Gig PC2100 DDR Crucial, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB (Omega 2.4.96b), Hyundai ImageQuest Q17 17" Monitor (1280x1024x32), Gigabyte GA-8IRXP MoBo, Ultra-Quiet PSU 400W, WinXP Home (SP1), DirectX 9.0b
October 29, 200322 yr I've got a question on the Omegas - how do you change the preferences? I installed them and could not figure out how to disable the "application preference" for AA in the control panel. Since FS's AA is a real frame eater, not being able to switch that made the drivers a non-starter for me. Did I miss something? Thanks!
October 30, 200322 yr Hi Colin,Open Display Properties. Select Settings - Advanced - Omega 3DUnder 3D Settings for:Select 'Direct 3D'Check 'Use Cusom Settings'Click the 'Custom' button.... and there you are - a selection of options you can meddle with to your heart's content ;)Good Luck!Mike
October 30, 200322 yr I cannot speak for CRT monitors. All I can say is that this driver set performs faultlessly with my Digital Hyundai TFT LCD 17" Q17 Monitor and has done so under, at times, very arduous conditions over the past couple of weeks. My own feeling is that we should probably treat these stories with a liberal sprinkling of salt. However, if they do have some basis in fact, my experience may have something to do with the fact that my monitor refreshes at 60Hz and is protected from refreshing at a rate higher than 75Hz.Mike
October 30, 200322 yr The frying monitor story turned out to be started by one individual who had a monitor problem. A thorough review of the threads led to the conclusion that only one poster had lost a monitor while running the CAT 3.8s. Somehow that got blown into hundreds through the mob mentally on the internet. A complete falsehood. Nothing to worry about. ATI received no complaints about monitors with tens of thousands of people using the CAT 3.8 drivers. The Cat 3.8.5 aka 2.4.96() drivers by Omega solved all the menu problems and other issues with FS2k4. If you're currently using the CAT drivers by ATI, just make sure the ATI control panel is uninstalled before the omegas are installed.
October 30, 200322 yr The new Omega drivers are great. But I did see a new clock rate tab in the control panel that I recently been messing with LOL. I think I have seen my Radeon 7200 perform better in the past 2 days than it ever did :-lol. Of course I overclocked by 7200 by...a lot, but it is perfectly stable as far as I could tell LOL. I overclocked it to 212MHz from 183MHz (Please note this is a 30MHz increase, in other words ~16% over where it should :) ). I should be getting a new card soon, so i'm not worried if my 7200 melts down :-lol.FS2004 been running like greased lightning on my comp since then. Not often I get full 30fps in most conditions, most sliders maxed :). Not too impressive next to a brand new computer with a Radeon 9800 or 9700, but it IS extremely good for stuff made in 2001 LOL.
October 30, 200322 yr I'm not necessarily subscribing to the "video drivers ate my monitor" theory, but I had a fairly new monitor go belly up on me while using the 3.8s as well. It was probably coincidence. But man, what a coincidence!
October 30, 200322 yr I'm also using the latest Omega drivers since they've been released. My system runs absolutely stable. And indeed menu flashing solved. I must say that the menu appears quicker when running in maximized windowed mode compared to fullscreen. Same goes for FSNavigator. When I press F9 running in max windowed mode, the map shows up instantly. When I press F9 running in fullscreen, the map shows up with a very minor delay. Don't know if it's just me seeing this. I'm running WindowsXP Pro with all patches, DX90b, Asus A7N8X Deluxe v1.03 and Club3D Radeon 9500 Pro. But overall, I'm happy with the system as it is now! :-jumpy
October 30, 200322 yr I agree with all above - I am running the "Dell" 3.8 Omegas and have had (zero) problems with them. The image quality seems somehow better, performance seems the same, but the menu-flicker is gone. Highly recommended!-Greg

Any hints?
October 30, 200322 yr Ditto's here with a 9700Pro, P4PE, 2.8, 1 gig Kingston PC2700 DDR SDRAM. Using a TTX 8997 19" CRT, refresh @ 85mghz.Love the clarity / menu flickers gone, and checklist menu not smeared. Colors seem a `tad different, maybe slightly richer.Best news - although frames (with my settings locked @ 30), would typically see low-mid 20's in heavy cloud formations, mid to moderate high 20's in typical flight operations (ground & air). With the Omega's, very consistently getting 28+, even in heavier cloud buildups. Have not changed my settings - but performance on my system noticably improved. (understand FR is setting dependent - just using here as comparative mark, my system). Not sure I understand the accessory programs that came with the Omega's - control panel OK, and AA set properly to hardware vs. FS's AA option. But other stuff - ?????Thanks OMEGA !Ron
October 31, 200322 yr Well, I've found one program that doesn't like the Omega 3.8.5's, namely Trainz 2004. I had to go back to the ATI 3.8's to get this program working. BTW, Driver Cleaner 2 solved all of the issues that I originally had with the ATI 3.8's, or at least so far (1 week).Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
