GeForce GTX285 Overclock

Featured Replies

Hi EveryoneMy gpu seems to be struggling with some fairly intensive airport scenery (Orbx YSCB). It has been suggested that my GTX 285 is not up to the task and I should consider one of the 480 or 580 series cards.I was wondering if any of you had any thoughts on this and if an overclock of my card is an option instead or even a way of delaying the inevidable need for a new gpu until I have some funds saved up.I am running an i7 975 OC'd to just short of 4.3Ghz.If an overclock of my card is an option, can anybody point me to a thread or give some advice on what to do, what programmes are needed etc. I have Rivatuner, can I manually oc with this?CheersBarra

Typically clocking the video card has little effect in FSX. And at 4.2ghz that 285 is getting swamped. No amount of clocking will help. Get the 400 or 500 series.Vic

Hi VicThanks for the feedback, do you think the 480 would be good for my system or does it really need the 580 to shine?Barra

Hi Barra,In my opinion the 580 GTX is your best bet with the 570 GTX in second place. The 480 GTX is good, and would offer you a lot more in FTX than the 280 GTX will, but I think the move upward in series would be a better idea.Happy New Year and kind regards,

I upgraded from the 285 to the 580 on my i7 920 and it made a massive difference
