ASE and REX: not clear what I have to do. Please help

Featured Replies

Hi all,I have FS9 and ASv6.5 (on a second computer wideFS connected) and would like to purchase ASE, but first of all I would like to have a clear description of the interaction with REX (that I purchased short time ago...).Mainly, what should I do before flying? I mean, up to now I have loaded a theme within REX, saved it in FS once for ever and before flying I just start ASv6.5 and FS9. Nothing else. Now what should I do? Reading the forum this is not very clear to me. Should I take a snapshot each time before flying? Should I load a theme in REX and then a snapshot each time? Isn't it possible to just run ASE, FS and that's it, with ASE using the textures in my FS folder that come from the once-for-ever created REX theme?I don't want to waste time playing with textures loading each time before flying!Thank you!James

Hi James,You can do what you already have done for FS9\AV8.5 and Rex.It works a treat!Norman

Thank you Norman. So if I don't touch anything, I mean, if I don't tell ASE to install a snapshot, it will not modify any texture, right? I was a bit confused because ASv6.5 automatically changed the cloud textures when FS was not active, so I was afraid that ASE would change my REX-installed textures without I told it to do so.

That is correct James. The snapshot function is a feature to make it easier to switch textures but is not required to run ASE. Whatever textures that are currently loaded in FSX will be used by ASE. If you set a theme with REX and do nothing else - that theme will be used by ASE.The snapshot feature is cool though. Suppose you have one theme you like for bright, sunny summer days and another you like for stormy cloudy days and another for those gray winter days. You could fire up REX and make the switch every time before flying but that is a time consuming process.Run REX - load your sunny theme let's say - close REX - load ASE - click the Graphics tab - SAVE snapshot and give it a name - SUNNY.exit ASE - repeat this process with STORMY and WINTRY themes saving them each time with the proper name. Now when you want to switch themes - run ASE - and load your selected snapshot and go fly - easy and fast changes - BUT not required if you want the same theme all the time.HTH,Vic
