January 2, 201115 yr Commercial Member There used to be a spinbox near the bottom of each page allowing one to choose between the standard board format and the mobile format. I was happily using the mobile version, which was dial-up friendly, had a decent search function where you could actually limit your searches to specific forums, and lacked the client side bloatware that brings a 2.7 gHz machine with 3 G of memory to it's knees and crashes IE7 more often than not, never mind being completely prohibitive on the 1.7 gHz Celeron machine I use at work. The problem is that I was in mobile mode when the option was taken away and now I can't get back. The stylesheets are apparently not loading because this is what the Avsim forums look like to me:Yeah, I know I can probably delete all my cookies and temporary internet files and return and re-login and fix the problem, but then I have to find all my logins for every other site I visit and spend half a day getting everything back to the way it was before but that's not something I'm interested in doing. I don't know why you guys insist on using this IPBoard crap, it's been nothing but headaches for me since it's inception here and at every other site I visit that uses it (and what's up with these stupid URLs, btw). The dumbed down search function alone is more than enough to convince me that this is not the forum software to be using on a knowledge-based forum such as this. If we can't have something like VBulletin (the version FSdeveloper's running), can we at least have a "lite" or "printer friendly" version so that those of us stuck on dial-up can still participate?Jim
January 2, 201115 yr I would recommend you try Firefox - it is better in terms of speed and stability when compared to IE. Also I've noticed that during the last couple of days there seems to be a lot more Internet traffic in general - this could be slowing things down for you further.
January 2, 201115 yr Author Commercial Member Thanks Momtchil for the suggestion. I've resisted Firefox up until now because of the constant auto-updating but maybe if I download the latest installer at work tomorrow (high speed connection) it won't be an issue for at least a little while. I'll try it.In the meantime the lack of "style" appears not to be an Avsim problem, but a local problem on my machine. I'm having the same issue with flightaware also. Here at Avsim I can refresh the page and the "style" will load, doesn't work at flightaware. I tried deleting all my cookies, cache, and temp files and rebooted the computer but I still have the problem. Maybe I'll try a rollback in the system restore or a repair install of IE.It's gotta be speed related, my internet connections (yes, I have 2 ISPs for redundancy) have been tempermental lately. I gotta get rid of this friggin dial-up, they keep talking about some kind of rural high speed internet through the power lines that you'd just pay for on your power bill, but they've been talking for 5 years now so maybe it's time to look at something like Hughes Net satelite. That's gonna involve logging, and I mean with chainsaws, not writing errors to files .I still want to know what happened to IPBoardMobile :Hmmmph: ?Jim
January 2, 201115 yr Another option is to install Google Chrome, less updates than FF.I had the same look yesterday while viewing in an older version of IE.Now on Chrome the style is back to normal. \Robert Hamlich/
January 4, 201115 yr Author Commercial Member I did a system restore and got my "style" back, not sure what happened, maybe a new year's day gremlin snuck in and took away my "style" while I was still sleeping it off . Anyway I've got the latest version of Firefox on my thumb drive and I'll give it a try when I get home. I thought I'd grab a copy of Google chrome too but I couldn't find a way to download an installer that I could take and install on another computer. It wanted to bypass any option to save the file and simply install it straight away here on my work computer. I'd probably get yelled at for that so I aborted. Maybe I'll connect up some evening and get the download started before I hit the sack and hopefully it'll be done downloading by morning...I still wanna know what happened to IPBoardMobile... :smile:Jim

'Safari' also suffers from the same issues................I still wanna know what happened to IPBoardMobile... .....Sorry - I don't know, maybe one of the techs can answer when they see the thread.
January 6, 201115 yr I knew it was there somewhere, I just had to figure it out myself. :) The "mobile skin" was turned off for some reason, but i have turned it back on. If you look lower-left of any screen, you will see a drop down, that probably says "AVSIM" and a language next to it if you are using the default skin. Change that first drop down to "AVSIM mobile" and you'll get the high-speed without all the glossy stuff for mobile Skin.
