January 2, 201115 yr I'm trying to install fs9 on my new computer with windows 7 and I'm running into problems. The installation gets to about 77% (looks like scenery .cab files) and says that it is unable to locate folders and I had to abort. Any ideas on why this is happening? The computer is very capable and installs and runs fine on my old xp machine. CPU: i7-9700KF stable @ 5.0GHz | MOBO: ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero | GPU: ASUS GTX 1080 Ti @ stock | RAM: G. January 2, 201115 yr Hi, I also use Windows 7 and had never such problems with Fs9.My first tip would be, that you ensure that you´re running the installation in Windows XP combatibility mode. This CAN prevent some erreors, but it´s not the answer of everything. Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
January 2, 201115 yr I'm trying to install fs9 on my new computer with windows 7are you installing into the default win7 / programs directory? there are all sorts of issues and protection features that protect your system when FS is installed onto the OS disk. this may be your challege.install FS as follows -a hard drive, or partition, different than the OS make sure that UAC is OFF for the HD or partition FS is installed. and I'm running into problems. The installation gets to about 77%is the disk scratched? if so your new 'puter's CD/DVD drive may be unable to read the disk. if the disk is not scratched you may have a bad CD/DVD player on your new computer.--... ensure that you´re running the installation in Windows XP combatibility mode.NO. this can cause reduced FS performance. there is no reason to run FS in 'compatibility mode'. i've worked users through framerate issues where FS is running at 1-2 frames per second BECAUSE of 'compatibility mode'.follow the install path and UAC instructions i listed above and FS will run fine on win7.-- D. January 2, 201115 yr Author Thanks for the quick relpies. The disc is scratched in some spots as I've had it for a number of years now, but I reinstalled it on my old system again without issues to test that and it worked fine. What are you referring to by UAC? CPU: i7-9700KF stable @ 5.0GHz | MOBO: ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero | GPU: ASUS GTX 1080 Ti @ stock | RAM: G. January 3, 201115 yr I'm running FS on windows and didn't have problems installing FS but have had problems installing some addon. PMDG for instance the only way I can install it is to startup win7 in safe mode then install and it installs fine. You might try that and see if it helps. One thing anyone who has been around computers for any length of time will tell you you can take 5 computers built with the same exact hardware, install the same software on them and get 5 different set of problems. Sometimes I really think mine spends the time I'm sleeping figureing out how it's going to mess with me the next day! :(
January 3, 201115 yr Author Ok thanks I'll give safe mode a try in the mean time. I've come across a couple of posts, one on another forum and one here over in the windows 7 OS forum, where people have posted the exactly the same problem I'm having; It fails at 77% right on the amster.cab. So hopefully I'll here from them CPU: i7-9700KF stable @ 5.0GHz | MOBO: ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero | GPU: ASUS GTX 1080 Ti @ stock | RAM: G.
