  1. Hey guys, I need some help... Last week I started playing around with DX10 for the first time to see how it would run. While the visuals look a little better (I think, it's marginal) my performance has dropped. On average I'm getting around 6-7 fps LESS when using DX10 from DX9, and I cannot figure out why. This contradicts most people's claims of the improvements and benefits they've found after switching over. I've been consuming posts and guides and Youtube videos, slowly making adjustments to FSX and NI setttings one at a time, and nothing has really helped. If I create a flight in FSX and get 28-30 fps, then I load the same flight with DX10 enabled, I'll get 22-23 fps, with occasional drops to 15fps - and some hard stutters. I haven't purchased Steve's fixer yet because I want to first make sure I can actually make it run on par with FSX performance (if not better). Syetem: 15-2500k OC 4GHz, 8gb ram, GTX 560 Ti
  2. I decided I wanted to try Vatsim out for the first time recently. I downloaded Fsinn and whatever the other thing is, installed them both and watched a how-to on youtube to get things going. However, I started everything up, positioned myself at Dulles for a flight to Orlando, but the only frequency that came up and was audible was NY center. I tried a couple days later; started a flight at Montreal, loaded up Fsinn, but same thing - NY center was the only frequency. Is it possible I did something wrong or is this normal?
  3. I opened a ticket with flightbeam because my sim is now lagging quite a bit. Really hope it's an easy solution to reverse it.
  4. I just picked up Flightbeam KIAD which comes with the addon manager by virtuali. I noticed it sets up global teaks within the software and applies it to all FSX sceneries, however, I don't really want it messing with my pristine cfg. file. Is there a way to disable this?
  5. I just have a question about re-installing the 777. I bought the 777 when it came out but recently ran into performance issues with FSX that I wasn't able to resolve, and in the end I decided it was best to do a complete re-install of FSX - this isn't such a big deal because I have so few addons. So after I went through the process and everything was set up again, I installed the 777, but this time it didn't ask me to input my activation key. I read (I think in an article on PMDGs website) that if you don't completely uninstall and delete everything before a re-install of your addons you could run into problems. If I had uninstalled it correctly would it have asked me to enter the activation key again? I may sound a little paranoid, but it's is because I'm obsessed with performance, and when a loaded up the 777 for the first time on the new install it seemed a little unstable, and the second time I had a CTD. I never had a single CTD in the time I had it until now. What do you think?

  7. Just starting using enb again and it reminded me why I never stick with it. I do like the colours it brings out, but the sky is so bright I can't make out the clouds, and the cockpit is too dark. Is it possible to turn down the overall strength of the bloom settings? Which values can I experiment with in the .ini?
  8. Call me old fashioned, but I'm a sucker for good FPS. I'm having more fun in the Q4 right now :p0502:
  9. I also feel they have a lot of potential. I bought the BBS a320 and I absolutely love it. I know many people are skeptical of a paid beta, and that's completely appropriate, but I think some are being far too critical about this company without having purchased a single product from them - post PSS. To each their own. They have my attention, and the support is outstanding.
  10. Sorry, but I almost choked when I read this. The high quality photoreal textures here is nothing short of spectacular. The tire and VC shots are the best I've seen. For those that don't have the Concorde and access to the FSLabs forum, here's a link to view the pictures http://airdailyx.blo...ml#comment-form
  11. I have my screen refresh set to 1/2 which helped greatly in reducing stutters, so my fps never exceed 30. What you're saying is I should try my lock at 26?
  12. I’ve been using FSX for a couple of years now ever since I updated to my current system: nvidia 560ti i5 2500k overclocked to 4.5. My RAM specs have escaped me at the moment. Admittedly, I had been one of those people who spent the same amount of time - if not more – tweaking, as I did actual flying. In that time I experimented with dozens of settings, configurations, tweaks and combinations; everything from *******, Nick N, Word Not Allowed and many other helpful contributors here on Avsim in an attempt to minimize stutters and maximize performance. I always tried one thing at a time or started with a fresh fsx.cfg before making any changes, and I only have fsx running on my computer and I run it VERY clean. Thanks to Word Not Allowed, frames locked internally at 30 and the ½ refresh vsync selection in Inspector, I’m doing more flying and I’m generally much happier with the way fsx runs now, and I have very few tweaks installed (I used to believe more was better). In most situations with modest settings I can maintain 30fps with payware aircraft in Orbx regions, and it is buttery smooth and overall a joy to fly in. The only frustration remaining now is what happens when the fps dip below 30. As usual this happens around areas of heavy autogen, payware airports and medium to heavy weather settings. But if they drop down even a few to 27, it stutters and struggles atrociously bad. Throw in the NGX and flytampa’s cyul, suddenly I'm down to 10-20 fps, and it’s struggling so bad that it’s virtually un-flyable. How can being even 3fps below the locked setting result in that kind of a difference? It goes from smooth to slideshow and back if I taxi by a hanger. I read all kinds of posts on here about guys who have an acceptable smooth sim with frame rates in the 20’s. I just can’t figure it out. I don’t know if it has anything to do with the cheap HD I have, my nearly 8 year old monitor, or some kind of cfg setting I haven’t tried yet, but it’s annoying. It’s not just fsx either; I have this problem in fs9 too. It’s like my computer can’t load things fast enough below the refresh rate and it results in poor performance. Performance which I believe is not normal. Please help me understand why. Sincerely, A frustrated pilot
  13. Just update the nvidia driver and the option will show up. I recommend setting the 1/2 refresh rate. It made my sim smooth when running 30fps or above.
  14. Let's worry about the j41 sp when we get the 1900 sp I agree we should enjoy it for what it is, and it's a fantastic aircraft. I wouldn't trade performance for most of what's on that list anyway. As long as you can do the checklist items, fly charted approaches and master how it flies within the FSX engine (ultimate realism can't be achieved), then what more do you need?
  15. I have a problem with stutters when fps drop below the monitor screen refresh rate. The Vsync setting in Nvidia Inspector helped smooth most situations out, though. If you haven't tried this yet and you have Inspector, go to the FSX profile and under Vsync select 1/2 refresh rate. Then in FSX set your fps limiter to 30. Make sure you don't have an external limiter running. Now my only problem is stutters below 30fps. But when it's matching 30 or above, its perfectly smooth. I don't know how people report a smooth sim with 20-25fps, mine is a stuttering mess.
  16. Majestic dash for sure because I see a lot of them and it's perfect for short hops. A VERY close second would be the FSLabs bus (although we never hear anything from them), and finally the T7. While the T7 may unequivocally be the most anticipated overall, I'm just not into sitting in front of my computer for 14 hours flying from Newark to Shanghai.
  17. I had better frames on the NGX. Just to add my opinion on the Extended, and I repeat, this is only MY opinion, but I flew it a few times, and while it's still good and some of it's nice to look at, I just couldn't get into it. It just didn't seem realistic enough, like a toy. This may seem controversial, but I bought the Black Box Sim a320 on impulse, and it is now by far my favorite aircraft - and I consider myself a "hardcore" simmer too. Anything less than realistic is not a good experience for me because I do fly for my job. It's still a BETA (0.6) but I'm impressed already by what BBS are doing so it will hold me over, at least until FSLabs is released.
  18. Hi rafapiloto, I've been impressed by this, but have been waiting for the fsx/wilco version. Are you still working on it?
  19. Another source had confirmed it will be released this weekend. I believe it was the airdailyx blog who confirmed it. Maybe later today Atterrissages heureux
