Vaccum like sound?

Featured Replies

G'day to everyone from Aus!Really enjoying the MD-11, especially with the extra training from Angle of Attack! My question is, when in the cockpit, I constantly here a sound like a vaccum cleaner, if i turn down the PMDG sound via the PMDG menu it is reduced to an acceptable level, however I lose things like the copilot call outs.I have the TSS sound add-on for the MD-11 which sounds unreal so a bit of a bummer to have it drowned out by this Vaccum. It seems this sound I'm hearing is just part of the sim so I'm sure you can all hear it too.......but does anyone know if it can be turned off or down without loosing the other sounds?Last of all....I am very happy with this sim, its one of my best AC in my virtual hangar, thanks PMDG!P.S. anyones else flying the IVAO crowded skies this weekend?RegardsJohn Davis

You have three vacuum cleaners on this thing: two on wings and one in the tail.Joking aside, it's really difficult figure out which of the hundreds of sounds is the issue if we don't know when it starts. When do you start to hear the sound? What button/knob/switch did you press/spin/flip?

I'm betting he's hearing the PACK system or whatever it's named on the MD.Thing is so loud it drowns even the sound of the wind/engines

John,I assure you the sounds provided with the PMDG MD-11 are highly realistic. They were recorded on the real thing. If you mean the equipment cooling / fan sound you hear once you connect AC power then that's what you hear on the real aircraft too.So unless there's something wrong with your speaker setup in windows (wrong number of speakers and channels assigned in the windows setting) then what you hear is what you'd hear on the real aircraft too.Cheers,MarkusPS: Oh and yes, the interior sounds from the TSS MD11 sound package are indeed kind of crap... Sorry to say this so blunt, but they don't have anything in common with the real aircraft. Trust me I know, I recorded the real ones.

Thankyou everyone for your input.Markus,Fair enough, I had a feeling that these cooling fans were the source and if that is indeed the correct sound then that's fine by me, having never been in the cockpit of an MD-11 I just wasn't sure. Thanks for your reply.RegardsJohn Davis

Markus,In my setup not even a "shred" or "whine" of engine sound is heard inside the cockpit and this is kind of "missing", you know. On the other hand I listened to the Angle of Attack training video and you do hear some of it. So, what are we doing wrong, if any.ThanksBenny K

Benny, have you tried with sound sliders at default positions? One other possible issue could be that your speaker settings within windows do not match your physical speaker setup (i.e. the number of speakers), leading to certain channels being left out.Cheers,Markus

Markus,Yes, Sound sliders were in default position as recommended by PMDG (50%) all.I need to check on the other point you mention and we'll see.ThanksBenny K

Nothing helps. No real engine sound.Benny K
