Maddog MD-80 Problem

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I recently got the Maddog MD-80, but I have a little problem. I start the engines from cold and dark, get everything perfect, then on takeoff, as soon as my back wheels come off the ground , my number 1 engine, or the left one completely shuts off. I have tried it numerous times, and I still get the same problem. How do I fix it? Thanks in advance!

Are you slamming the throttles full forward on departure? The Maddog MD80 is very advanced and will not tolerate abuse.I believe you advance the throttle to around 1.70.Good idea to go through the Manual and Tutorial flights on this one.

No, I advance the throttles about half way, let them stabilize, then go up to 3/4

Engage A/T and then TO/GA (of course, do not forget to set the right TCR). If the engine still shuts down then, then I advise you go to the Maddog support forums. Although it seems the actual developers don't offer support, there are people there that can really help.

No, doesn't seem like that, but please, do not let that determine your purchase decision! I acknowledge that customer support is as important as anything, but the Maddog is just too good to pass up just because the dev doesn't give customer support. At the support forums there are many knowledgable people that will help you. It may take some time, but still. You'll get your answer. Let me say it again: I can not emphasize enough what a great plane the Maddog is to fly. The Leonardo Maddog is quite possible the best simulated FS aircraft there is, period.

This link may help alsohttp://www.flythemaddog.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=8875I agree fantastic aircraft, Im still trying to master it. Steve

So let me get this right. You are not using auto throttle? If not, try setting 1.2, then engage the EPR on the autothrottle and see what happens. Take note of what the engine temperature reaches on take off.

Are you taking off in conditions that aircraft might have ice on wings and get it ingested by engines? If that is the case then request de-icing from the ground crew before taxing and check if that helps.

Set the engines controller up for TO autothrottle..Use Climp for engine N1. @1500 ft switch to AT CLM You over rev the JT8D in rw, it WILL scatter. Plus make sure you didn't get a "hot" start, egt around 370, to begin with. I never use manual throttle for takeoff. I let the engine contoller do the work. gotta fly her by the book. It took me awhile to master it. Its very real.Sounds like you may have had a hot start in that engine. Smoked.
Guys, there is no way around reading the manual first on this one. NO SHORT CUTS. Sorry. You have to watch the EGT and make sure both engines stay around and below 475 on take off. I bet we all made the mistake of trying to contact the developer when we Finnaly learned how to crank her up, taxi to the runway, take off and watch that first engine go out. It wasn't funny then but now Hahahahahhahaha. This IS the best REAL flying sim plane in FS9. Too real for me sometimes do not have the time to flight plan, weight plan, procedure plan, checklist plan.....wait a minute Im not a real pilot. WOOOOOWWWWW.Carl Perry 7+year sim pilot.

Well, I have the exact same problem and I do everything as describred in the tutorial flight. I'm not losing the left engine at every attempt but often enough to cause a pain when I fly on VATSIM. I have the FMC set up properly and engines started up and running normally - no hotstart. I make TO active on the TRP, spool up the enginges to 1,4 N1 and then engage the A/T. TAK OFF and and APR TO are indicated on the FMA. I will then lose the left engine somewhere around V1 and climbing through perhaps 500 feet. I also have that filter setting for the throttles active in the control setup. Anyway, I formatted the computer last night and hopefully the problem will be gone./Krister

Huh? APR TO? I suppose you meant EPR T/O?
