January 14, 201115 yr Hi, I´m going to buy me a new nVidia GTX 460 grafic card as advised in another threat ( http://forum.avsim.n...-should-i-have/ ). Now I have a question regarding the power supply unit. I´ve seen on the nVidia website, that I need at least a 450W PSU. I´m currently using a 430W. Do I really have to change and what should I take? 500W or 550W? I don´t have so much money at the time, so I´m looking for a cheap one. January 14, 201115 yr You could probably pick up a (fairly) cheap 600W OCZ, Antec, Coolermaster etc PSU from Newegg. Just make sure it's not some cheapy brand likely to bust your card and more, or die after a week

January 14, 201115 yr Can everyone just stop picking on Chris? It doesn't matter how right or wrong we are, it's disgusting to see everyone doing this when he can't even reply. He's a nice guy and doesn't deserve this

I am using a 450w power supply in my small form factor / AMD 3.5GHz, watercooled, Phenom system - GTX460 in there and overclocked :)By the way.. in the future, if you are going to upgrade to the next level of performance - never go cheap on the PSU - do get the best, branded, one you can afford - it will go on to power your PCs in the future while motherboards, memory & CPUs come and go....
January 15, 201115 yr Author Thanks for the answers, but the upgrade to the GTX 460 is on ice for some time. I simply do not have enough money to get a good PSU with it. Not yet, but....So instead of the GTX 460 I got another 4GB of RAM as planned for a long time. Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
January 15, 201115 yr Hi superpilot,Could you please report on what sort of performance increase you get from the 4GB increase. Thanks

January 15, 201115 yr Author Here is my short performance report:I´ve tested the 8GB with FSX now for about 1,5 hours. The system is runnming without page file off to prevent HDD overloading, which can cause shutters. So I´ve tested it with variouse airplanes and open coulds weather. I can feel that it gave me a performance boost. The pictures are now smother, even with 18-15 FPS, as I have some times. All the microshutters, which annoyed me and made it sometimes unflyable, especially with OZx, are gone and the system is using more RAM as before. Now it uses arround 3500MB and everything is looking good. The upgrade was really worth it´s money. Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
January 16, 201115 yr Nvidia should be releasing the successor to the 460, the GTX 560 before the end of January. You can expect 460 prices to fall.
January 16, 201115 yr Nvidia should be releasing the successor to the 460, the GTX 560 before the end of January. Prices of 460s will drop. A good quality 430 watt power supply will be fine with the 460.

This really does prove all the discussion about whether 4GB is enough or 8GB is needed. Thankyou for running some tests.
