Shimmering Texture Problem - Fixed

Featured Replies

This has been reported before but it was just over the weekend that I discovered the procedure and I am one
Very Happy Camper
now.I have a very modest machine with an equally modest NVidia 7900GS graphic card. When approaching most airports I always had "shimmering" runway and taxiway lines etc. until they would finally settle as I neared touchdown. A most distracting visual issue.Having tried virtually all of the suggested "tweaks" over the past couple of years, I was very dubious about trying the following - feeling the shimmering was just something I had to continue to live with.Boy was I wrong! The solution (for me) was as follows:I updated my NVidia drivers to 257.21 (they had been 6.14)Then I downloaded and installed the NVidia Inspector utility and followed the setup exactly as recommended in this link:
(There is a link to the Insector utility in that set of instructions). The results for me are nothing short of
amazing
- the shimmering is gone everywhere I have flown - truly a "miracle" for me.I have only applied it to my FS2004 setup but intend to do the same for my FSX setup (which I rarely use) as well.If you have a NVidia card and have "shimmering" issues, this
may
be the answer - it was for me.

Small correction, what you describe sounds like aliasing, not texture shimmering. Glad you found a fix though!

The main reason Nick set up Nhancer and/or NVidia Inspector that way was to reduce the shimmering he had on his system. Iused to play around with mip bias and all that stuff until I found Nicks settings. haven't seen a shimmer since!Vic
