New CPU = Worst FPS?

Featured Replies

Hi,I bought a AMD quad core a few weeks ago and got it fitted last night upgrading from my AMD dual core. It is the 955 at 3.2 GHZ. For some reason, I am only getting 25 FPS in FS9 but as soon as Squawkbox opens, it drops down to 19. Any help on settings please or anything that could increase FPS.ThanksDale

Cant help you ,but if i could get mine to work at 20 frames i would be happy.Nebojsa

You could try using fs9cpu_2cpu.exe which I got here on Avsim. There was quite a bit of discussion last week about CPU speed v FPS and I said I had tried that utility and it appeared to help when using other progs with FS9. It seems that FS9 can only use one core but fs9cpu_2cpu.exe can allocate one core to FS9 and get other running progs to use the other core(s). I found it helped when running FS9 and afcad together, so it might help you.See previous thread http://forum.avsim.net/topic/324903-cpu-frequency-better-fps-at-fs2004/Colin B

Hi Dale, that´s indeed strange. I have a little bit lower CPU speed and FS9 is running just fine on 30 FPS even in Frankfurt X with heavy weather, lot´s of ai and the PMDG 747, so the CPU speed should not be the problem. Maybe you should defrag your HDD. I´m using this tool http://www.piriform.com/defraggler . It´s easy to use and does it´s work very good.Next thing is your grafic card. What do you have? Maybe this is your bottleneck. It would be nice if you post your system spec´s here so that we can judge, what´s wrong, cause it isn´t normal, that FS9 is working so slow on such an CPU.

Best regards, Steffen

hello,i used to have the same problem, then i found a program called set affinity(just google it), and what it does is that when you launch it, you can select all programs and set which cores to run at, it also have favourites so that once you start the program, all of the programs move from both cores to just one core, it really made a huge difference for me.
