February 8, 201115 yr Commercial Member Does AoA have their own VHHX approach? If so, what is the slope? I couldn't find that online.Nope, it's the normal IGS 13 chart that's floating around all over the place. These are stills from our video; chart credit to the flytampa documentation. We take out AP/AT/FD at the CH VOR:Overfly the SL NDB, then turn onto the IGS:Established and descending:Starting the turn:A little low in the turn, but get right back on PAPI shortly thereafter:Just before touchdown:It's the normal approach by all means, I just decided to fly it raw data to give people a challenge from the normal NAV/PROF to the start of the turn then handflying from there! Nick Collett i5 2500k @ 4.4GHz, GTX 480, 8GB Corsair 8-8-8-24, 300GB WD Velociraptor, Corsair HX850W
February 8, 201115 yr Thanks for the pictures! But is the IGS a 3 degree, or something steeper. When I come in and turn off the localizer, I seem low. February 8, 201115 yr Commercial Member Thanks for the pictures! But is the IGS a 3 degree, or something steeper. When I come in and turn off the localizer, I seem low. It's 3.1 degrees I believe. The tough thing about that final turn is to keep your speed on target WHILE maintaining descent rate correctly. As you can see from those pics, my speed was spot on throughout but I let it sink just a little in the turn. The video illustrates all that very well of course, better than pictures can! Nick Collett i5 2500k @ 4.4GHz, GTX 480, 8GB Corsair 8-8-8-24, 300GB WD Velociraptor, Corsair HX850W
February 8, 201115 yr tricky part about it is, it's a slow turn. takes some time, as you bank into the turn, the wind is playing with you, as well as your speed decreasing due to the increase pitch you need in your turn. the turning in is the easy part, however when rolling out level you need to make a very precise combination of steering inputs to roll wings level, pitch your nose down and decrease your power setting again. This all on the very last part of the approach. hey it's not without reason most companies expect their aircraft to be established in final config/speed/power setting latest 1000ft AGL. This also combines to us pilots no being used to it...Cheers
February 8, 201115 yr I had a bit more of a play around last night with this issue - and I have got it so far to give me the white centerline and runway shown where it should be i.e 136. I have a ILS on 088 - only issue at present and think i know what it is is that when the autopilot captures the ILS on the 088 track it isnt showing it as at the top i.e it looks like you are heading wrong direction - this is obvioulsy because its thinking I should be turning onto 136 not 088. It captures it fine and flies a perfect track down the 088 ILS however. I think I know why and will tweak further to make it work right. But perhaps someone can post the txt of the data used in the AOA dvd as persmission as been granted to do so to safe us all the time and effort - Ill then get in touch with the author of the autoadd tool and get him to fix what it adds to this.Regards Regards James Carr
February 11, 201115 yr I was kinda hoping someone would tell me it worked. Anyways; James, I found this video on the VHHX approach. As you can see, the centerline is oriented with the runway, not the IGS. Using my navdata edit and the AFCAD file from AVSIM (search "Eric Vander") will result in this. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=f0f_1228409887 Eric Vander Pilot and Controller Boston Virtual ATC KATL - The plural form of cow. July 8, 201312 yr I know this topic is aged but... I just recently purchased FlyTampa's Kai Tak and it is a huge headache trying to figure out how to get the VHHX navdata into the PMDG NGX FMS. I have read this entire topic but it just doesn't make any sense how it is worded. I have no idea what goes where. I have also tried finding the tool mentioned on austscene.com but that site just seems to be a cheap search engine that yields no results other than illegal torrents. Please help! Ben Weaver SWA8485

July 9, 201312 yr Look here: What a life saver!! That tool is amazing! Easy to use and installed the navdata quickly and accurately. THANK YOU! Ben Weaver SWA8485
