experienced in the old NG -> enough for the new NGX ?

Featured Replies

Hi,as a quite experienced offline and online pilot of the FS2004 - PMDG 737 NG - do I have to study the basic manuals and tutorials first or will it be possible to place myself in the cockpit of the new PMDG NGX and start the well known procedures of the old PMDG 737 ?

Well, I don´t think that you have to study much before you can fly, cause PMDG didn´t change the way a 737 is flown. There might be some minor changes, but all in all it should be mostly the same. That´s it.Steffen

Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h

The old 737 was good in the way the systems are reproduced so no, i think you don't need a lot of time to achieve the type rating Big%20Grin.gifThe NGX adds only superb graphics and the few systems left out in the past (TERR radar, HUD, IRS), maybe other systems are being modified and completed deeper, but the old one was a 737NG like the new one is.Cheers,

The NGX is a quantum leap above our first one in all the systems simulation actually, I have a feeling all the flaws of the old one will be laid bare when everyone sees the new one.

I just ordered the manuals today and can't wait to study and get deep into the internals of the NGX, but for the first flight I'm going to try to ignore the tutorials and such and start from cold and dark and go by memory, just to see how far I can progress by knowing the basics from the last 3 years. Should be fun, but I'm sure I will pick up on the nuances introduced with the updated systems logic and features that were absent before. I really love how PMDG is putting in those under the hood quirks that they say maybe 1% of the customers will notice and appreciate, I can't wait to see this beautiful plane responds to the dynamics of weather that other addons do not simulate well or at all. I went back and looked at an older "mega-thread" and was amazed to see that even the startup time of the FMC from cold and dark will depend on the air temperature, how cool is that???? This kind of thoughtful programming will demonstrate that the environment (even in FSX) is a living, breathing mechanism and the pilot must respect mother nature in planning our flights!

Ryan, would you like to comment about how the NGX is programmed for changing values on the MCP? In other words, for changing the heading, will it be right click, left click; or click and drag style; or a combination of different styles? I imagine you would choose a style similar to your other addons, but I thought I'd ask.

I know that for sure...i was talking in general. If you don't go deep into systems, the old NG was a very good plane in logic...Of course, then the new NGX will destroy the old one on every front...cheers,

It's exactly like the MD-11 and J41, right and left clicks or mousewheel.

Ryan, you mentioned that the old NG has many flaws. How does the 747 hold up compared to the old NG? Is it as outdated? And also, when can we expect some information about the 747 V2? I'm sorry about all the 747 questions, but it's been a favourite of mine for a long time now and I would love to see an upgraded version of it in the not too distant future. Anyway, I'm eagerly awaiting the NGX.
