I7 950? Bang for Buck it has been superceeded by the SandyBridge chips. What level do you expect to overclock your system to and how much were you expecting to pay?

I was thinking of buying this instead Intel® Core™ i7 2600K but was told intel had problems with their motherboards and wouldn´t be avialable until april. Should I wait? This package if I buy it costs 1,368.04 USD.Thanks for your answer./Martin Sjöholm

I am running a Core i7 950 with the same ram only skill on a Rampage iii mobo and it performs very well on FSX & PMDG 747. Only thing i would change with your rig is to up the watts on your power supply in case you want to add something like another GTX460 as i did.

Wait for the P67 motherboards to come back, makes no sense to get the old i7.
Would that not depend a bit your pocket book?

This is the best option. The i5 2500K will deliver much better results. BUT, its a waiting game as of now. I don't agree with Jose, in trying to find a P67 Motherboard right now. The problem with this, is when the new chipset comes out, you might not be able to return it and get the new board. Now yes, you can utilize the 6Gb/s ports, and have no problems, but why risk it. I literally have everything ready, my i5 2500K just came in today, and my HDD and optic drive and win 7 are coming in on Monday, and the case RAM and PSU have been here for a week, it's REALLY hard looking at all of this stuff right now, but patience is something that must be practiced in this case. Everything I bought will use the 6Gb/s SATA ports, and when the new borads ship out, I'll be utilizing them. But I will have piece of mind in knowing that I don't have a defective Chipset. I only play FSX so as far as I'm concerned, I wont need to upgrade ever again. Unless Microsoft flight is just filled with everything FSX missed, and is a better game, I still believe that this setup will be just fine, and If needed 2-3 years down the road, i'll save up and buy the newest stuff. AND remember PMDG's 747, 737 NGX, and all other craft AND future projects are geared for FSX.......it might be YEARS until we see their quality on Microsoft Flight......But this is my opinion, and I don't know what their business model looks like, and I don't know what they plan on doing with Microsoft flight. Microsoft Flight, doesn't even have a release date yet.The i7 will deliver........it will give you the rates you want......and it will be totally worth it. But, its "old" technology, and the i5 2500K has much more computing ability. The i7 2600K is better, but unless you also plan on doing video work, or 3D rendering and stuff like that, the money need really not be spent on this. You can get the i5 2500k for under $250. and the MOBO will most likely be under 200, or 250 MAX (maybe, I don't know they might sell it for a decent price, or sell it higher to recover losses) Its tough to say. Everything else looks great, the case, the card, 650W PSU will be plenty, the RAM you are looking into is 2GB more than what you need, but by no means a waste of money. If your gut is telling you to get an i7 950 because you want to get this thing set up ASAP, then go for it, it wont hurt and you will get great results and performance. But if waiting is something you can handle, I would recommend doing so, and get the i5 2500K.....because its better than the 950, based on the architecture alone. I have done my research on all of this, Ive been staring at my computer screen for 2 weeks, racking my brain as to what to do, and the i5 2500K is just right now, the most powerful and practical option as far as gaming is concerned.I dont know if this helps, but I hope it did.

Forgeting about money, isn't the i7 980 the best choice for a CPU with FSX?

Forgeting about money, isn't the i7 980 the best choice for a CPU with FSX?
The i7 975 and i7 980X are just WAY overkill for FSX, and REALLY expensive ($899-$1000) where as the i5's are in the $300 range. If money is not an option then I dont see why not. Like I said in other threads, if you are doing alot of 3D rendering work, music, editing, internet browsing, and gaming all at the same time, then sure this thing is worth it, due to the hyper-threading technology, but its kind of overkill. You can build a complete i5 2500K system from scratch for less than what the i7 975 alone costs let alone the $200 more for the 980XThe i5 2500K is, and trust me, going to do more than fine. Intel is pretty much saying that their i5 2nd generation will out perform the i7's of the first generation, and we've all seen the youtube videos with flawless framerates with computer owners using the 1st generation i7 processors, so I don't see why one would need to buy such an expensive processor if they only have FSX in mind. But I'm not discouraging. I think what ever makes the user happy is really the most important factor. I only promote the i5 2500K because it is what is necessary to get the job done (framerates, processing power, gaming experience) at an affordable price. The i7 975 and 980X and the i5 2nd generation series, is like comparing a corvette to a Formula 1 racer........they are both fast and handle well......one is just faster and handles better.
