February 10, 201115 yr A Fairchild Metroliner crashed at Cork Airport this morning (UK time) on a third attempt to land in fog after two go-arounds. The plane flipped over apparently. Six killed, six injured. Should the third try have even been made at all?
February 10, 201115 yr With no blackbox they will have to rely on good old fashioned investigating to find out the real cause behind the accident. In my oppinion, they should have diverted after the second failed attempt, if not the first. However, there may have been a seperate underlying problem that caused them to land immediately and/or the resulting accident. Some pictures I have seen don't show the scene as particularly foggy, but Cork Airport set on top of a hill, and obviously conditions can change extremely quickly. February 12, 201115 yr My personal rule is two approaches then alternate. I guess under certain circumstances (very certain) a third try could be warranted. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
