Disable sceneries

Featured Replies

Since my computer is not powerful and it takes lots of time to load Fs2004. I wonder if I can disable some of my sceneries(photoreal, airports) that I currently don't use? Such as now I only fly domestic American routes, can I disable all my asia and europe airports and photoreal? Does it affect anything to my scenery library? Can it speed up my loading time? And I wonder if there are any tricks or tips to make Fs2004 load faster. I already put all the aircraft I currently don't use into a specific folder.

Yes, when FS loads go to scenery Libary on the main menu. You will see all sceneries that are currently active. all you have to do is uncheck the ones you don't want to load and click OK. Then restart FS. Thats it. When you want to use them again just reverse the process. I have many many GIGs of scennery installed and what I found is that even if say I'm taking off from KSAN and none of those sceneries are in that area FS STILL has to go look in everyone of those sceneries to see if any of them contain KSAN, so unchecking them will decrease your load times. Hope this helps.Brad

Another way to speed up FS9 load time is to remove all your user flyable aircraft (not the default MS planes), to a storage folder that is outside of FS9. Before you start FS9 place the aircraft you intend to fly back in the FS9/aircraft folder.Regards,Mel

Hello,

Before you start FS9 place the aircraft you intend to fly back in the FS9/aircraft folder.
Take care of "alias" like sounds and panels :( Regards.bye.gifGus.

Very good point Gus. Thank you for catching that and my bad for missing it.Best regards,Mel

All great suggestions and each one will make a real difference. Another suggestion, if you want to take the time, is to customize your aircraft folder and scenery.cfg files. (Yes, files plural) What I have done is create a number of folders in which I have specific scenery.cfg files and appropriate AI aircraft. Just rename your aircraft folder and scenery.cfg in FS9. Move the customized aircraft folder and scenery.cfg file in. When you're done flying in that region, move them out again and restore your original folder and file names. I love to use Flight1's AI Helo program and this works for that as well - only the appropriate helos will be generated for random AI flights. It takes a little while to set it up, but once it's done it's a breeze to useIan

Thank you very much for all your commentsBig%20Grin.gif I've moved the aircrafts I don't use to a specific folder and disable the sceneries in scenery library. @kiwiflyer45: I was thinking about doing that too :(

My Fs still loads quite slow. Can this be because my FSGlobal2010?And just curious,I know that UltimateTerrain eats quite lots of memory but does it impact much on the FPS?

If you have not done so recently defragmenting your hard drive(s) might help shorten the load time.Regards,Mel

I don't believe it does. I think it's just substituting alternative landclass, textures, coastlines etc for what's already in there by default. Maybe the 3D lights might but I've never felt it had any impact on FPS. Others might have a better idea but I've been using UT since it came out and haven't noticed a problem. For me it's a "must have" addon - I just wish they had extended the series to cover more than just the US and Europe as it's one of those real "game changers" that transform FS9 into something so much more realisticIan

Thanks . Because I am thinking that it should impact on my loading time but not much on the FPS,just want to make it sure :(
Load time? Start up or from the splash screen? Makes a difference.
From the splash screen, since I think the load time on start up depends on the location that you start.

Mesh (FSGlobal) doesn't impact the FS9 loading from splash.Ultimate Terrain impacts FS9 loading a bit. But don't disable it in FS9. It causes lots of problems if done like that. Do it through the UT Tool.Aircraft that are loading with FS9 (aircraft folder) usually cause the most delay. I deleted ALL aircraft in that folder except my addon aircraft and a Cessna 172, which is my default flight aircraft. Also, I did not delete them, I moved them into my backup folder (it's just in the aircraft folder itself). If I ever need anything, I can quickly restore...I don't disable any sceneries though - I have some 250 of them, but also a powerful machine. There is some faster loading, but for me, it's not worth the fuss, Load, enable, reload... sheesh. If you say it's slow, what is slow, in seconds or minutes?Furthermore, defragmenting with windows defragger won't bring much. Ultimate Defrag, O&O...Your machine though shouldn't be giving you much trouble with FS9.
