November 14, 200322 yr Ok, I've got the wave motion and I've got the aircraft reflections. But as we all know, Geforce4 440MX cards just can't do water reflections in FS9.Just as a matter of interest, does anybody know why the card can show FS2002 water reflections but not FS2004 apart from the fact that one is DX8 and the other is DX9? I presume aircraft reflections are processed differently to water reflections. Finally, I've seen posts saying that if you can move your water effects slider beyond half way, you've got a DX9 card. Well I can move my slider beyond half way but I know I haven't got a DX9 card so the above test isn't foolproof. Victor
November 14, 200322 yr Well if you have the right card it will work. FS2002 used a different style of reflections, they should have kept it in the sim in addition to the new style (or rather let us use both at once, so that the reflection would be sun-dependant, opposite to reflection-map dependant).Actually, you should be able to see reflections, just not the bump mapping.-Daniel
November 14, 200322 yr I can see aircraft reflections but not water reflections. I can also see water movement.I agree that MS should have included the option to use the old style reflections for those of us with cards not man enough for the job! :-)Victor
November 14, 200322 yr I think what they mean about moving it beyond halfway is can you move it to "Full" and does it stay there? Mine doesnt.
November 14, 200322 yr >I think what they mean about moving it beyond halfway is can>you move it to "Full" and does it stay there? Mine doesnt.Well mine stays there. Anybody else with a non DX9 card have this happen?Victor
November 14, 200322 yr Well, I *think* mine is not a DX9 card but I can keep the water slider to full and it stays there.I have a MSI GF4Ti4600SE and according to MSI's site the Ti4600 is only DX8.1 or lower.Whether I can see bump mapping I have no idea unless someone can post screen shots that clearly show bump mapping and no bump mapping. That should confuse things a bit more :-)

November 14, 200322 yr Author Commercial Member Hi, DX8.1 and above no problems, there was an error in the readme for the first Bill Lyon water reflection #1 attempt, stated you will need Dx9 which was not true, corrected with the second version in the readme, stated DX 8.1 is needed. All DX8.1 3d card and above, no problems for all Fs2004 feature.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
November 14, 200322 yr Well the Nvidia site says the Geforce4 440MX supports DX 8.1 but I suppose "supports" and "is compliant with" are not the same thing.
November 14, 200322 yr Author Commercial Member Hi, MX series does support some DX 8.1, just not fully. Gforce 2 card do not supports DX 8.1. I don't know how fs2004 will performe with both card because of these DX.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
