Weird Auto-pilot Operation-Is this a bug or my FSX?

Featured Replies

After getting the AP to pop up. I engage it and press HDG. Everything works as it should. However, pressing the ALT button causes a white border to appear around the pop-up and the ALT does not engage. When I set the altitude it immediately pops back to 000, same with VS. Cannot engage ARM either. The ONLY way I can get ALT to work is to press NAV button, engage ALT then disengage NAV. Can someone enlighten me about this AP operation?

Try setting the AP modes from the VC. ALT mode is just Altitude HOLD (i.e. stay where I am now), you can use the UP and DOWN rocker switch to control rate of climb or descent.

OK, as Paul indicated, this AP only has Altitude Hold, no Altitude select.. where are you setting the Altitude, I wonder? If you are getting a white border, it is because you are pressing outside the actual button.. make sure the mouse pointer changes to a Hand before clicking..

I always use Virtual Cockpit and understand the workings of auto-pilots. Let me clarify what is happening:In VC I bring up the AP popup, engage the AP and engage the HDG. So far, so good. Usually this occurs at 2000-3000ft. I then want to engage the ALT hold. The hand is there Bert but when I try to press the ALT button nothing happens except a white line border around the popup. I then pressed NAV (even with no flt plan), then the ALT button works. Finally disengage the NAV function and get back to normal flight operations.I always use Virtual Cockpit and understand the workings of auto-pilots. This is just the weirdest thing... I cannot replicate this at all..What happens if you sit on the runway, pop up the AP, turn it on, hit the HDG buttonand then the ALT button (below the ALT lettering..)If I do this, the ALT indication lights up on the annunciator, and if I hit it again, it turns off.No need to push NAV..

I will try it on the runway and see what happens. Never seen a white border around any windows before this. Maybe I should change the dimensions a bit.I also can't explain the duplication in my previous post...but who cares...it's history Just%20Kidding.gif
